Fitz Roy
Fitz Roy is hidden deep within Parque Nacional Los Glaciares in Argentine Patagonia, located on the Southern Patagonian Ice Field at the border between Argentina and Chile. It is actually a group of granite spires, and its jagged ridgeline is particularly striking against the open wilderness, having long been considered a symbol of Patagonia. Its rock walls are nearly vertical, and combined with fierce winds and changeable weather, it is highly difficult to climb, remaining a renowned, challenging objective in the mountaineering community to this day. For the average traveler, hiking is the main way to get close to it. The trail from El Chaltén to Laguna de los Tres passes through primeval forests, goes by Laguna Capri, and offers views of hanging glaciers. When you climb to the lakeshore, the lake faces the rock walls directly. Parque Nacional Los Glaciares
Parque Nacional Los Glaciares is located at the eastern foothills of the Andes. The park features a vast ice field, one of the largest ice caps outside of Antarctica, which feeds dozens of large glaciers. Glacial meltwater flows into alpine lakes such as Argentino Lake, creating spectacular landscapes of icebergs and glacial lakes. The shores of Argentino Lake in the southern part of the park are the core tourist area. Perito Moreno Glacier is the iconic landmark here, with its ice wall towering above the lake surface, where the blue-and-white ice textures are clearly visible. This glacier has long maintained a state of near-equilibrium between accumulation and ablation, which is rare against the backdrop of global glacial retreat. Perito Moreno Glacier
Perito Moreno Glacier's ice mass extends from the Andes to the shores of Argentino Lake, with an ice tongue approx. 5 km wide and rising approx. 70 m above the lake surface, forming a blue-and-white ice wall. Against the backdrop of retreating glaciers worldwide, it has long maintained a near-equilibrium state, making it one of only 3 glaciers in Patagonia that have not retreated—a characteristic that has garnered significant attention in glacial research. The glacier's surface is densely packed with crevasses and ice pinnacles, displaying a gradient of colors from cobalt blue to milky white under refracted sunlight, with the edges often covered in fresh snow during winter, creating distinct layers. The glacier is named after the 19th-century explorer Francisco Moreno. Its uniqueness lies in the ice mass periodically advancing to the opposite shore of the lake, forming a natural ice dam that divides the lake in two; the blocked water level rises continuously, and the pressure breaks through the ice wall, triggering a spectacular rupture as a large volume of lake water suddenly gushes out. The mountain is visible from the entrance to the town of Chalten, and hiking is an option. Hiking resources are plentiful in the town, and equipment can be rented.
For those who don't want to hike, you can wait for the sunrise from the roadside, but be aware of the weather.

Glacier National Park is so stunning! The blue ice stands tall, the cracks hide mysterious lights, and the meltwater from the glaciers merges into a blue lake, which is breathtakingly beautiful. Hiking in it, listening to the roar of ice cracking and watching the reflection of snow-capped peaks, it feels like entering a pure secret land of ice and snow. Every glance is a masterpiece of nature!

Spectacular one-of-a-kind glacier that can see from a close distance (~200m) from the well constructed and well maintained balcony and walkways with wheelchair accessibility. Better yet, there are informative boards along the walkway that allow visitors understand more about the magnificent glacier and its surroundings. Good job Argentina!
