New Harbor

4.6/5
412 reviews
New Harbor is a 17th-century canal district that retains its historic charm to this day. Colorful old townhouses and historic mansions line both sides of the canal, their vibrant facades reflecting on the water, creating a striking contrast in architectural styles. The north side is bustling with numerous bars and restaurants, making it perfect for casual gatherings, while the south side is relatively quiet. Both sides offer unique charm for photography. Several historic wooden ships are moored in the canal year-round and can be viewed up close. The fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen once lived here, and a commemorative plaque in the district records this history. Taking a canal cruise from here is a classic way to experience the charm of the city's waterways. You can explore by walking along the canal or by taking a boat to admire the architecture from the water.Denmark · Copenhagen

Ribe Cathedral is located in the center of Ribe town and was built in the 12th century. The church blends architectural styles from Romanesque to Gothic. The church had two towers when it was first built, one of which collapsed on Christmas Eve in 1283, killing many people. The current tower was rebuilt in 1333. The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid statue is located in the Long Beach Park in the northeast of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was cast by a Danish sculptor based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Daughter of the Sea". The bronze statue was completed in Long Beach Park in 1913 and has a history of more than 100 years. It is a world-famous bronze statue and a symbol of Copenhagen, so it attracts countless tourists. The statue of The Little Mermaid is only 1.5 meters high, which is equivalent to the height of a teenage child. From a distance, the mermaid with a fish tail is sitting on a huge rock, quiet and elegant, leisurely and contented. If you look closely, the mermaid is a sad girl. Visitors come here to observe the mermaid's facial features. This beautiful statue has been cut off by thieves many times, so the head of the little mermaid I see now is transplanted later, not the original. The local government was worried that the statue would be damaged by too many tourists, so in March 2006, the Little Mermaid statue was relocated to the deep sea. Now, in Changdi Park, you can only stand outside the seaside fence and watch the little mermaid in the sea. Mermaid statue, and took a group photo with it across the fence. It should be noted that there are many tourists outside the fence, so you need to pay attention to safety when taking pictures.Denmark · Copenhagen

Grundtvig’s Church

Grundtvig’s Church is one of the few Expressionist-style churches in the world. Its signature feature is the west facade: the nearly 50m-high bell tower overlaps with layered, stepped gables, its silhouette resembling a giant pipe organ pointing toward the sky. Except for the baptismal font and the roof, the entire building is constructed almost entirely of millions of handmade yellow bricks, which have a warm tone and blend seamlessly with the surrounding yellow-brick residential complex built during the same period. Stepping inside, rows of yellow brick columns rise toward the pointed arches and ribbed vaults. With almost no ornamentation, the space is simple and ethereal, looking especially moving when daylight pours down from the high windows.Denmark · Copenhagen

Frederik's Church

122 reviews
Frederik's Church is located on the same axis as Amalienborg Palace, facing it across the street. Its interior is a rare circular hall, with a massive dome over 30m in diameter supported by 12 columns. The copper-green dome stands out on the old city skyline. Standing in the center of the hall and looking up, you can see murals of the 12 apostles of Jesus on the inner wall of the dome, painted in gold on a blue background, which is quite imposing. The lower edge of the dome is decorated with a ring of symbolic reliefs, and on both sides of the Baroque altar, you can see decorations themed around verses from the Psalms. The exterior walls are surrounded by statues of prominent Danish religious and cultural figures, and the roof platform features a group of statues of figures from church history, ranging from Moses to Martin Luther. It remains a functioning parish church to this day and is a popular wedding venue for many locals. When you step inside, tread softly and take a quiet moment to look up at the dome.Denmark · Copenhagen

Copenhagen City Hall is located in the City Square in the center of Copenhagen. This is the 6th generation City Hall built in 1905. It has a 105.6-meter-high minaret and a red brick structure. There are exquisite fountains, memorial columns and a famous statue of Hans Christian Andersen on the square in front of the City Hall, attracting tourists to stop. The lobby on the first floor is open to the public. After passing the entrance and going up the steps, you will be greeted by a spacious and bright hall, which is a place for official receptions or weddings, and is therefore beautifully decorated. There is also a small astronomical clock museum in the town hall called "Jens Olsens Verdensur". This is an astronomical clock that shows the movements of twelve stars, including local time, the dates of solar and lunar eclipses, and the positions of the stars.Denmark · Copenhagen

Slotsholmen is a small island in Copenhagen's city center surrounded by canals. It is also the starting point of Copenhagen's history. Today, the ruins of the medieval castle and Copenhagen Castle walls are still preserved under the palace, and you can walk inside for a close-up view. This small island is like a compact museum complex. The Royal Reception Rooms, Royal Stables, and the tower of Christiansborg Palace are open to visitors, and you can climb to the top of the tower for a panoramic view of the old city's red roofs and the harbor. Thorvaldsens Museum houses a collection of works by the Danish sculptor Thorvaldsen, and his tomb is located in the museum's courtyard. The Old Arsenal of Christian IV is now the War Museum. The waterfront "Black Diamond" is the modern building of The Royal Library, with its black stone facade reflecting on the water. On the east side of the island, there are also old buildings such as the Old Stock Exchange, built in the 17th century.Denmark · Copenhagen

Gefion Fountain

4.2/5
160 reviews
Gefion Fountain is a large bronze fountain sculpture on the waterfront of Copenhagen's harbor. The sculpture captures a moment of strenuous plowing: four oxen with heads lowered and backs arched, muscles tense, pull the plow, while Gefion drives them from behind with a whip, their hooves seemingly churning the pool water. Water sprays from the oxen's nostrils and surges from behind the plow and wheels, enveloping the entire bronze group in mist and giving the static sculpture a sense of forward momentum. It is also often treated as a wishing fountain by tourists, and many people toss coins into the pool to make a wish. Winters in Denmark are cold, and the fountain is turned off during this time for frost protection. The sculpture itself is still worth seeing, but if you want to see the full effect of the mist and the oxen appearing to break through the water, it is better to visit during warmer seasons.Denmark · Copenhagen

Det Kgl. Bibliotek, The Royal Library

Det Kgl. Bibliotek, The Royal Library is the national library of Denmark and also serves as the library for the University of Copenhagen. With a collection of tens of millions of items, it is one of the largest libraries in Northern Europe. The interior of the new building is the highlight of the visit: a massive, continuous cut divides the building into two slightly tilted volumes, supporting a full-height atrium in between. The white walls ripple like waves, with corridors and connecting bridges crisscrossing the space. The glass curtain wall on one side faces the harbor, offering panoramic views of the city, the sea, and passing ships, all bathed in bright, natural light. On the ceiling of the bridge connecting the old and new buildings hangs a massive ceiling painting by Danish artist Per Kirkeby, which is a very popular photo spot in the library. The library is renowned for its collection of manuscripts by famous figures: a vast collection of manuscripts and personal documents by philosopher Søren Kierkegaard is housed in the Kierkegaard Archives within the library, and Hans Christian Andersen's manuscripts and letters are also kept here. Both collections have been inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. The library also holds rare treasures of book history, such as a printed copy of the Gutenberg Bible.Denmark · Copenhagen

City Hall Square

The building has a history of more than 800 years. Even today, there are still many local and South American vendors who have gathered stalls and peddled goods in the square since the afternoon. If you climb up to the 110-meter-high clock tower in the square, you can have a panoramic view of the entire Copenhagen city. There is a "world clock" above the clock tower door, with 13 sets of mechanical devices running at the same time, showing the time around the world and various astronomical times. The Town Hall on the square was built in 1905 and designed by architect Martino Arp. Its architecture combines the styles of ancient Denmark and the Italian Renaissance. The splendid city hall hall is mainly used for wedding ceremonies and official receptions. The gilded statue above the main entrance of the city hall is the founder of Copenhagen, the Archbishop of Absalon. Many major events in Denmark are held in Copenhagen City Hall Square.Denmark · Copenhagen

Nyhavn, Denmark is a landmark attraction in Copenhagen. It is an artificial canal built between 1669 and 1673. The canal is lined with colorful townhouses from the 17th and 18th centuries, which are rich in color and form a unique landscape. I visited the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark on a solo trip during winter. The cold breeze from the sea and the quiet atmosphere made the experience feel even more magical. The statue itself is smaller than I expected, but its delicate expression and connection to Andersen’s fairytale give it a unique charm. Since it was off-season, there weren’t many tourists, which allowed me to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It’s a simple yet iconic landmark worth seeing at least once.

The Organ Church is reached by taking two buses from the city center. It got this nickname because a group of decorations inside the church look like an organ. The church is not big, but it has a unique facade, high ceilings and symmetrical design. It is also very spectacular. It is a must-see attraction when visiting Copenhagen.

Frederick's Church, also known as the Marble Church, is very close to Amalienborg Church. The appearance of this green-roofed church is still very beautiful. You can visit it for free. Tourists entering the church consciously kept quiet. We also followed the local customs and quietly found a seat to sit down and quietly appreciate the church. Note that the church is open from 10:00 to 17:00 every day and 12:30 to 17:00 on Sundays.

Castle Island is also a very good place to go. The castles are all historical heritages and there are quite a lot of them. This castle is also an ancient heritage of Denmark. Many of them are well preserved and have a sense of age.

The Gefion Fountain, like the Little Mermaid, is a landmark statue in Copenhagen. It is a mythological statue of a goddess leading four cows. It is not special in terms of its design, but there are many attractions around it that you can visit together.

Royal Library (Kongelige Bibliotek) The exterior of the National Library of Denmark is known as "black crystal" and "black diamond"! It is very novel and beautiful. The interior is well lit. There are covered bridges leading to other buildings. Copenhagen Water Bus No. 922 has a dedicated pier here. It is convenient for tourists to visit. The surrounding wooden plank roads are very comfortable to walk on.

It is a fairy tale country with many castles. I had a good impression of Copenhagen in just two days. Although it was late autumn, it was not as cold as I imagined in the Nordic countries. The sun was warm and the people were very enthusiastic. It felt better than Norway.
