Avignon Cathedral is situated on a rocky plateau overlooking the Rhône River and is an important local religious building and historical landmark. Its history dates back to the 12th century, and the main structure is Romanesque in style, featuring thick stone walls, rounded arches, and a simple, solemn facade. Unlike many cathedrals in France known for their Gothic spires, the overall silhouette of this building is more understated, reflecting the style of medieval religious architecture in the Provence region. The interior features religious sculptures, paintings, altars, and decorative details, creating a solemn and dignified atmosphere, while also preserving traces of renovations and artistic developments from different periods.Avignon · 26.3 km from Fontvieille

The Church of Saint Tophim is a Romanesque church in the city of Arles in the Provence region of southern France. Its west façade with ancient Roman relics is one of the representative works of Provence Romanesque architectural art. The cloister on the south side of the church witnesses the process of Arles, an ancient city once immersed in ancient Roman civilization, integrating into the medieval culture of Western Europe. And in 1981, together with the ancient Roman relics such as the arena and the ancient theater in the city, it was included in the "World Cultural Heritage" list. The decoration of the front entrance of the church and the picture of the saint are the famous features of the church.Arles · 8.5 km from Fontvieille

This is the original shape of the suspension bridge in the famous painting "Van Gogh's Suspension Bridge". The suspension bridge was restored in 1960. The restored bridge is more like the suspension bridge in the painting. There is also a sign next to the bridge, reminding tourists of the extraordinary things about this ordinary bridge.Arles · 10.4 km from Fontvieille

Old Port of Marseille

The old port area is the center of gravity and the essence of the entire Marseille region, not only because it is the origin of Marseille and was the third largest port in the world 200 years ago, but more importantly, the pure Marseille style can only be seen here. There are many famous monuments around the Old Port, including the castles of Saint John and Saint Nicholas built in the era of Louis XIV. In addition, the old port is also the life and entertainment center of the Maasai people. The area around the Old Port is a famous food district. Most of the restaurants in the port operate a famous Marseille delicacy - "Marseille Fish Soup". The "Old Port" is actually not old. It was rebuilt after the Second World War, but the locals still call it "Old Port". Apart from habit, there should be a historical sentiment in it. Every morning, the fish market here is very lively, and the wharf is full of small fishing boats and boats. The whole harbor is full of the unique leisure atmosphere of southern France. The master plan of the Old Port Mirror View Pavilion was jointly undertaken by FosterPartners and French landscape architect Michel Desvigne. A huge viewing pavilion of 46 × 22 meters, which is like a mirror, was built here. It is supported by 8 thin columns. Since then, the corners of the mirror pavilion have been gradually thinned to reduce the visual weight. The view of the surrounding old port is reflected from the ceiling of the polished stainless steel mirror, as well as the faces of thousands of tourists who stop to watch, creating a strange beauty, which not only provides a place for tourists to stop and shade, but also It allows tourists to become part of the landscape when they enjoy the scenery of the old port.Marseille · 71.3 km from Fontvieille

It was formed during the Middle Ages and features a compact street layout, retaining a large number of traditional buildings in the Italian style, which showcases the historical background of Nice as a long-standing intersection of French and Italian cultures. The building facades here are primarily in warm tones such as yellow, ochre, and orange, complemented by green shutters, wrought-iron balconies, and traditional wooden doors, creating a distinct Mediterranean urban landscape. The area is filled with narrow cobblestone streets, small squares, churches, cafes, restaurants, and specialty shops, and exploring on foot reveals many architectural details with historical character.France · Nice

Roussillon is a small town famous for its ochre landscape and traditional village style. It is built into the mountainside, with houses scattered along the hills. The exterior walls of the buildings display rich hues of red, orange, yellow, and ochre, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding green vegetation. The unique local colors come from the nearby rich ochre deposits. This natural mineral has long been used for pigment production and has also shaped the distinct regional character. The streets here are narrow and winding, with cobblestone paths connecting traditional residences, small squares, cafes, galleries, and handicraft shops, retaining a strong rural atmosphere of Provence.Roussillon · 50.8 km from Fontvieille

Van Gogh Sanatorium is a memorial building. It is quite large and is also one of the most important sanatoriums in the area. The surrounding scenery is very nice and there are many historical buildings. The city is not very big, but it is indeed very warm.

Avignon Cathedral is located next to the Papal Palace, and it's a simple Romanesque building. The statue of the Virgin Mary on the top of the bell tower is very conspicuous and can be seen from anywhere in the city. The interior of the cathedral is not large, with soft light from the stained glass windows and some faded murals on the walls. It's quite quiet inside, and you can hear the sounds of tourists coming from the Papal Palace square next door, but it still has the tranquility of an old church.

In the small town of Arles, the white stone classical buildings scattered throughout the city exude a strong Roman atmosphere, and this church in the city is their famous representative, known as the greatest masterpiece of Provencal Romanesque architecture.

On a spring evening, several women were washing clothes by the river, the river was rippled, and a carriage passed by the bridge, just like what Van Gogh had painted. When we arrived here, the bridge was lifted high and no longer accessible, and of course the washerwomen by the river were no longer visible.

As the name suggests, it's an area with an old-fashioned feel. There are a lot of delicious restaurants. In particular, there were a lot of famous gelato shops, so people were waiting in line. ☺️

Roussillon is a historic region in southwestern France, nestled in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. Historically part of Catalonia, it roughly corresponds to the present-day Occitanie department of the Occitanie region, with the Aude department often included within its boundaries. The area is characterized by its unique red clay cliffs, formed by the rich ochre-rich soils of the surrounding area, displaying shades of yellow, orange, and red. Many of the village's buildings are constructed using locally sourced red and yellow clay, earning it the nickname "Red Cities." Local legends tell of the origin of the red clay and a love story. In 1659, the Treaty of the Pyrenees between France and Spain ceded Roussillon to France. The region was renowned for its ochre deposits, and artisanal mining flourished from the late 18th century, with ochre pigments exported worldwide. By the late 20th century, due to soil erosion caused by long-term mining, the area was designated a national nature reserve, prohibiting industrial mining. Roussillon is also a wine region, producing geographically designated wines such as Côtes du Roussillon. The wine industry in this region is managed by relevant industry associations, and in 2011, the Chinese translation of the region's wines was "露喜龙" (Lu Xi Long). Since the early 1980s, tourism has gradually replaced mining.
