Oarai Sun Beach is located in the Minato-chuo area of Oarai, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Facing the vast Pacific Ocean, it is one of the largest swimming beaches in the Northern Kanto region. This beach is famous for its long stretch of white sand, extending from the fishing port in the north to the picturesque cliffs in the south, offering an exceptionally wide and open view. The water here is crystal clear, shallow, and calm, making it perfect for families to play in the water and sand. The beach is barrier-free, allowing people with disabilities and the elderly to enjoy activities comfortably and with peace of mind. A wide range of marine activities is another major attraction here—visitors can experience various water sports such as surfing, bodyboarding, SUP (stand-up paddleboarding), jet skiing, and powered paragliding. The beach is surrounded by breakwaters, so it is not significantly affected even on rough days, allowing beginners to try surfing with confidence. The tide pools scattered among the rocks form natural swimming pools for children, which are very popular with little ones.Oarai · 10.9 km from Hitachinaka

It's just a few minutes walk from Mito Station. It's on top of a small hill. It has a stately atmosphere. Below is a street of restaurants with a Showa-era feel. I recommend it if you have some time in Mito.
