Fanjing Mountain

Fanjing Mountain is located in Tongren City in the northeastern part of Guizhou Province. It is the main peak of the Wuling Mountains, spanning the junction of three counties: Jiangkou, Yinjiang, and Songtao. Its highest peak, Fenghuang Mountain, rises over 2,500 meters above sea level; the Old Golden Summit is over 2,400 meters, and the New Golden Summit, also known as the Red Cloud Golden Summit, is over 2,300 meters. The three peaks stand side by side in majestic grandeur. Fanjing Mountain was originally named "Three Valleys Mountain," derived from "Fanjing Pure Land." Buddhism was introduced to this area during the Song Dynasty and flourished in the Ming Dynasty, when temples and monasteries dotted the mountain. Because its towering height rivaled the Five Great Mountains, the ancients honored it as "the patriarch of famous mountains." The Red Cloud Golden Summit is the iconic view of the entire mountain—a solitary peak rising straight from the ground and piercing the sky. The Golden Knife Gorge splits the summit from top to bottom into two halves, with only a narrow canyon where one can climb up along iron chains, and the gorge tops are connected by a flying bridge, making it extremely precipitous. At the summit, the Shakyamuni Hall and the Maitreya Hall face each other, serving as the core symbol of the Maitreya sacred site. The three main peaks connect to form a reclining Maitreya statue stretching over 10,000 m, which locals call "Fanjing Mountain." The Mushroom Stone is another representative view—a sandy slate pillar that is large at the top and small at the bottom, shaped like a mushroom, approx. 10 m tall, appearing on the verge of toppling yet having stood for many years. The surrounding stone forest peak clusters, such as the Ten Thousand Scrolls of Scriptures and Eagle Rock, are geological relics formed over a billion years ago and sculpted by wind and rain erosion. The mountain also preserves a well-intact subtropical primary ecosystem, where the Guizhou golden snout monkey is distributed, and ancient rare plants such as the dove tree also thrive and reproduce here. In fall, the layered forests are dyed in brilliant colors, and the red leaves in the mountains set off the ancient temple; you can take a cable car to overlook the autumn colors across the mountain, or follow the mountain trails to experience them up close.Jiangkou · 23.5 km from downtown

Yunshe Scenic Areais an ancient Tujia village nestled at the foot of Fanjing Mountain and along the banks of the Taiping River. Legend has it that the name "Yunshe" means "houses in the clouds, a place where immortals dwell." Over 90% of the villagers are Tujia people with the last name Yang, and they still preserve their traditional customs and vibrant daily life. Many tourists visit here after climbing Fanjing Mountain to take a stroll, enjoy a farmhouse meal, and experience the slow pace of life in a mountain village. Shenlong Pool is the village's signature view, also known as Yunshe Spring. It is formed by spring water gushing from an underground river outlet, and the pool water is deep blue and crystal clear. Locals have long used the rise and fall of the pool's water level to predict the weather: a rising water level often predicts rain, while a falling level often indicates clear skies. This phenomenon is generally explained by underground pressurized water changing with atmospheric pressure. There is also an old legend in the village that even a long rope tied to a stone cannot reach the bottom of the pool, adding a touch of mystery to the water. After gushing out, the spring water winds around the village and flows into the Taiping River after a short distance. Set against ancient waterwheels and boardwalks along the water, every snapshot looks like a painting. Most of the old houses in the village are Tujia courtyards known as "barrel houses," featuring brick-and-wood structures with high fire-blocking walls on all four sides. The courtyards are paved with bluestone slabs, the stone piers at the eaves are carved with reliefs, and openwork wood carvings are commonly seen on window lattices and railings. One of these houses has been renovated into a nostalgia museum, displaying Tujia clothing, food, and wedding customs. Yunshe was once a famous papermaking village, and the ancient papermaking techniques have been passed down to this day. In the workshops, you can see the traditional processes of paper making and drying, and the handmade paper is even crafted into creative products like desk lamps and notebooks. To enter the village, you first cross the Wind and Rain Bridge and then pass through a stone archway engraved with the village's name. Villagers dressed in Tujia attire often welcome guests with gate-blocking wine and folk songs, and you can often encounter Tujia song and dance performances like the Hand-Waving Dance and the Money Stick Dance. The stone-paved alleys in the village crisscross like a maze and are worth exploring at a leisurely pace.Jiangkou · 5.2 km from downtown

The day that I visited was foggy and raining so visibility was not very good. I couldn't see much, but even the little that I could see was nice. I'm sorry that I missed the views, I'm sure it would have been amazing. It's a nice one day trip if you are close to it, I'm not sure it's worth visiting just for this though. I would suggest Zhangjiajie national park instead if you don't have the time or only want to do one of the two. It's not the same, but you will see similar karst landscapes. The two golden summits here can get very crowded and the passages are narrow so be prepared to wait in line for a while. It can get very slow.

Walking along the ravine in the scenic area, you can see incredibly clear emerald water. The valley is bursting with negative oxygen ions, and the temperature is very comfortable. In summer, it's advisable to bring a pair of shoes suitable for stream tracing; soaking your feet in the water would be a wonderful experience. Climbing up from the bottom of the ravine to see the sacred tree of Yamu involves over 700 steps, which is quite challenging, so be sure to conserve your energy. You can visit the Ming Dynasty Ancient Courtyard, and then take a bus back. The entire trip takes about 2 hours.

A very beautiful place. However, I had an experience that I have to share. I fell down in there. In fact, exactly near the small river (my 1st picture). I was taking photos for my wife, and suddenly I was in the water. I sprained myself. The fruitseller was very helpful to help me back up and found my phone in the water. After I was up, my wife also almost slipped, and another person afterwards also almost slipped. The floor is just too much moist and slippery. I hope the management look into that area. So please be very careful. The place itself is amazing. I walked for almost an hour, and I love it. The simple life of the people, the surrounding mountains, the old buildings and the farms. All look peaceful and relaxing to walk around..I recommend a visit but just be careful when walking.

Entering the gate of the Dong Village, it is like entering a simple and primitive town in the south of the Yangtze River, or a mountain village. (Also known as the mountain village) This Dongjia world hidden in the shade of green trees is like a phantom in front of you. Wandering along the zigzag bluestone road, after a hundred steps, you will suddenly see a circular square like a peacock spreading its tail. In one corner of the square stands a landmark building of the Dong Village - the bell and drum tower. Next to the bell and drum tower is a precious nanmu that has stood for hundreds of years, old and vigorous. The scenery is unique.

The cableway is very long, about 20 minutes, and I feel a little dizzy when I sit there, but it is really high. Fanjing Mountain is very beautiful. It is worthy of being called the City in the Sky. This season is very suitable for visiting Fanjing Mountain.

Cheng'en Temple is located on Moshikou Street, Shijingshan District, Beijing. It was built in the fifth year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty and completed in the eighth year. It was built by Wen Xiang, a eunuch of the Imperial Household Department, and named by Emperor Wuzong Zhu Houzhao. It has the mystery of "three no's", that is, it does not open the temple door, does not accept incense, and does not set up a Taoist temple. There are five unique features in the temple: the Mounting Stone, the Bell and Drum Tower, the Diaolou, the murals, and the Herringbone Cypress. It is now the Yanjing Eight Unique Features Museum.
