The Scottish Highlands encompass the majestic mountains and valleys of Great Britain. The region is sparsely populated, with vast stretches of wilderness maintaining a raw and desolate appearance. Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles, stands in the heart of the Highlands. Its summit is shrouded in mist year-round, and the weather is changeable, attracting many hikers to climb it. The Great Glen divides the Highlands into two, with the Grampian Mountains and the Northwest Highlands on either side, and the area is dotted with numerous lakes and valleys. Glen Coe is famous for its jagged peaks and wild, desolate moors, making it one of the iconic landscapes of the Highlands. Driving along the A82 road, you can see The Three Sisters rising abruptly. Loch Ness is hidden deep in the Great Glen, with the ruins of Urquhart Castle standing quietly on the shore. The Highlands also preserve Scottish Gaelic cultural traditions and whisky distilling techniques, and many distilleries along the route offer tastings of single malt whisky. Driving along wild roads, strolling along mountain trails, visiting ancient castles and lakes, or touring whisky distilleries are all popular local experiences.Fort Augustus · 36.3 km from Loch Ness

Loch Ness is a British freshwater lake with a long and narrow shape with complex bottom topography and many caves. It is located in the cold Scottish Highlands but can not freeze all year round. The external waterway is the Ness River. This lake is well-known for the endless rumors of sightings of plesiosaur-like water monsters. There are even local tours with the theme of "finding the whereabouts of water monsters", but tourists should not come here with the mentality of seeing water monsters. Although no water monsters can be seen, the road by the lake on the west bank is part of the A82 road, known as the beautiful road in Scotland. There are Urquhart Castle and the water monster exhibition center on the lakeside. The main way to visit Loch Ness is to take a cruise ship. The cruise companies that tourists often choose are CruiseLochNess, Jacobite and so on. In addition, you can also go hiking, cycling, boating and other activities.Inverness · 7.9 km from Loch Ness

Urquhart Castle stands on the south side of Inverness and on the cliff on the shore of Lake Ness. It is condescending and surrounded by water on three sides. It was once a military fortress that was easy to defend and difficult to attack, and one of the important ancient relics in the Scottish Highlands. Now it leaves the world with only some ruins. It is said that in 1691, the castle defenders were defeated and blew up by themselves in order to prevent the castle from being occupied by the enemy. Urquhart Castle covers a large area. The castle you can see now was built by Alan Durter in the 13th century. The main tower exposed because of the collapse shows the internal structure of the castle like an anatomical sample. Because it is located in the fortress of Goron Canyon, the military position is very important.Inverness · 8.6 km from Loch Ness

Inverness Castle is situated on a cliff byLoch Ness. The earliest records of this castle date back to 1057, but it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times throughout history. The castle you see today is the version rebuilt in 1836. Viewed from the opposite bank, its brick-red exterior is striking. As you climb the cliff where the castle stands, you'll find that while it isn't very high, it's practically the highest point in the city, offering fantastic views of Inverness.Inverness · 13 km from Loch Ness

Located at the mouth of the Moray Firth Channel opposite Fortrose, about 11 miles northeast of Inverness, Fort George is a well-preserved 18th-century artillery fortification. Fort George was built in 1748 as the base camp for George II's occupation forces in the Highlands, and now one of the barracks has been converted into a museum. The scale of the castle is huge, and the capital spent in the construction of the year is about 1 billion pounds today. The Grieg Street Bridge is located next to the Old Town Church. It spans the River Ness and connects both sides of Inverness. It is the main traffic artery of this small town. The bridge is very narrow, only pedestrians are allowed to pass, and there will be slight shaking when walking. Standing on the bridge and enjoying the scenery on both sides of the River Ness always makes people feel comfortable.Inverness · 13.1 km from Loch Ness

I traveled to the Scottish Highlands for the first time in early January. I saw that the souvenirs from the same tour had the appearance of this cow, so I searched where I could see the real thing! This highland cow is really cute The long hair covers both eyes, Taiwanese also call it "Jay Cow" 😂😂

No monster for sure ! It’s just a nice short cruise enjoying the beautiful scenery from a lake view . Lake is super clean ! Salute to Scotland ! I was scheduled for the 11:00 am time slot but I was early before 10 am to ensure available parking space , the staff allowed me to join the 10:00 am slot. That’s a saving of my time !

We booked the 2.5 hour clansman & castle freedom cruise. This tour departed from Clansman Harbour to cruise across the dark waters of Loch Ness and 1 hour exploration of the Urquhart Castle ruins site. Great adventure! 👍🏻

The church is not very big, and there is a parking lot for self-driving tours. The most conspicuous thing inside is an American flag, which should be related to the American bishop. Opposite the church is a big river that runs through the city, with fast currents and beautiful scenery.

I didn’t see the beauty of the Grieg Street Bridge. The buildings on both sides of the strait were actually very scenic. I hurried back to my hotel before dark. I only walked on one side and took photos of two spire buildings. They seemed to be foreign and I couldn’t help it. It’s a pity to visit. I don’t know when I will visit again next time~
