Sidi Bou Said is located in the suburbs of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, and is perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of Tunis, making it one of the representative coastal towns in Tunisia. It is famous for its blue and white architecture, winding cobblestone streets, and charming Mediterranean scenery. From a distance, the pristine white houses spread out in layers along the hillside, with blue doors and windows echoing the deep blue sea in the distance, creating a tranquil and beautiful Mediterranean landscape. Most of the houses in the town feature white walls, paired with blue doors and windows and wrought-iron decorations, forming a unique architectural style. Walking up the hillside, you can see the open bay and the vast blue sea. Especially in the evening, as the sun slowly sets into the Gulf of Tunis, the golden afterglow spills over the white walls and blue windows, casting a warm glow over the entire town and making the scenery particularly enchanting.Tunisia · Sidi Bou Said

Mat Mata is the general name for the Berber tribe of the indigenous North African people, this charming village showcases the unique architecture of desert cave dwellings to outsiders. Because the area is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, the temperature is very high. Many cave houses were dug by the locals to hide from the sun, which has become a feature of Matmata. Today, most of the aborigines have moved to modern buildings, and the vacated caves have been slightly transformed to serve as hotels to receive people from afar. In the south of Matmata, there are mountains up to 800 meters high. The brownstones on the mountains are exposed, the ravines are crisscrossed, and the palm trees are struggling to grow upwards. It is said that the scene of the fight in the movie "Star Wars" was filmed here.Tunisia · Matmata

In the 9th century AD, the Kairouan area suffered severe water shortages. The drought and lack of rain at the time, coupled with the fact that the area was below sea level, made it extremely difficult to use water. The locals built 15 cisterns for drinking water. Only two of the imprints left by the Agrabit dynasty are now left for tourists to visit. Standing on the high platform where he specialized in cultivation, he could see the wisdom of Kairouwan at a glance. The small pool is used to store the water drained from the mountain. After the sand and gravel are filtered out through the filter arch with a certain height, it flows into the large pool. At this time, the water can basically be used for production and life, and people will take water along the rectangular embankment. It is cooler here in summer nights, and many people will relax here to enjoy the coolness.Kairouan · 88.3 km from Mahdia

Known for its cobbled streets and blue-and-white houses, Sidi Bou Said is a charming town on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean, with al fresco cafes, Tunisian eateries, and small art galleries. Early-20th-century Ennejma Ezzahra Palace features arches, ornate stucco, and patterned tilework, while Dar El Annabi is a historic house with wax figures in traditional costume.

The Medina of Tunis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a maze of narrow alleys. I visited on a rainy day, and the combination of the old cityscape and the overcast sky created a beautifully nostalgic atmosphere.

Bourguiba Avenue is an important tourist street in Tunisia. The block is also the living area for local people. There are many specialty shops and food stores. The tourist shops on both sides of the street are also quite good. You can see a lot of good business atmosphere.

Matmata is a spectacular hill unique to the rugged mountainous area made of loess history, presenting a magical feeling of outer space. Due to the long-term refraction of sunlight by the terrain here, the land here is dark red and the temperature is very high. It is really a desolate scene.

Agrabit Cistern. It is a special device made by Arabs to collect water in the desert. To visit the Agrabit Cistern, you need to climb the castle and overlook the cistern. The cistern is divided into two pools, the small one is used to collect rainwater, and the large one is used to precipitate impurities to form clean water. Because Kairouan is a water-scarce area, the locals built 15 cisterns in 862 AD, which is a symbol of the wisdom of the people living in the desert.

Absolutely a must see village, very short drive from Tataouine. Unfortunately is very run down and not many tourists are visiting but it is a jewel in the South.
