Mount Semeru Volcano

Mount Semeru Volcano is located inBromo Tengger Semeru National Parkand has an elevation of 3,676 m. Also known as Mahameru, its name is derived from Mount Meru in Indian mythology, and it holds a special place in the hearts of the local people. As a permanently active stratovolcano, it is situated in a subduction zone; the summit crater is constantly active, frequently emitting plumes of gray-white smoke. Climbing Mount Semeru Volcano is a classic long-distance hike on Java. Most routes start from Ranu Pani village, reaching the alpine lake Ranu Kumbolo after several hours of trekking. In the early morning, the sun rises slowly from between the valleys, and morning mist floats on the lake surface; the lakeside is a common camping spot. Continuing upward, you can rest at Kalimati Camp, then set off in the dark in the early morning to summit, reaching the peak of Mahameru just in time for sunrise to watch the morning light spread across the mountains beneath your feet. This route is quite strenuous: the altitude is high, early morning temperatures are low, and the sections for summiting and descending are steep. The loose volcanic ash and sand can be slippery, so you should be especially careful to slow your pace when descending. If you have limited time or energy, camping by the lake to wait for the sunrise is also a choice for many hikers.Pasrujambe · 17.1 km from downtown

Mt Bromo

Mt Bromo is an active volcano in eastern Java, Indonesia, part of the Tengger volcanic complex, with an elevation of approx. 2,329 m. It stands in the center of the ancient Tengger caldera, which is approx. 10 km in diameter, surrounded by a vast, sparsely vegetated Sea of Sand covered in volcanic ash. The crater is approx. 800 m long from north to south, approx. 600 m wide from east to west, and approx. 247 m deep. It emits white sulfurous smoke year-round and is the currently active volcano within the Tengger volcanic complex. Mt Bromo offers a classic experience: heading to a viewpoint on the ridge in the early morning to watch the sunrise. As the morning light gradually colors the Sea of Sand, the white smoke rising from the crater stands out against the morning glow. The cone of Mount Semeru Volcano in the distance and the perfectly conical Mount Batok nearby create a distinct skyline, with a sea of clouds rolling beneath your feet. After sunrise, visitors typically take a 4WD jeep across the black Sea of Sand, arrive at the foot of the volcano, and climb the stairs to the crater's edge to experience the smoking crater and the strong scent of sulfur up close. You can also ride a horse across the Sea of Sand, passing the Poten Hindu Temple in the center—the spiritual center for the local Tenggerese Hindus. The volcano is also a sacred site for the Tenggerese people. Every year, devotees hold the Yadnya Kasada festival, throwing offerings such as fruit, flowers, and livestock into the crater to express gratitude to the mountain gods. This tradition has continued for centuries, making Mt Bromo not only a natural wonder but also a place of unique cultural significance.Tosari · 24.7 km from Pasrujambe

Condor Plaza is a cultural park located in Uluwatu, the highest point in southern Bali, near Jimbaran Beach. It is a prototype square left unfinished from the Suharto era. The reason it is named Condor Plaza is because the world's tallest bronze statue of a condor was originally erected here. Here, you can also enjoy the beautiful southern Bali scenery from a height. Origin of Condor Plaza In 2003, the Indonesian government began the construction of Condor Plaza. The plan was to build a statue of the Hindu god of destruction and his mount, the condor, on the mountain. The total height would exceed 100 meters. It is said that a monk once advised Suharto that after the completion of this bronze statue, it would bless the prosperity of the Indonesian nation as well as the happiness and safety of its people. However, Suharto stepped down before the square was completed, so this expensive project was halted. The upper body, arms, and head of the condor are scattered across various parts of the square. Although the Condor Plaza statue is an "unfinished project," it is still worth seeing. From Jimbaran to the south, along Jalan Uluwatu, you can come to the hill where Condor Plaza is located. After entering the gate and climbing the stairs, you will see a statue of a snake wearing a laurel crown with a slender, coiled body on one side. This hill is about 200 meters high. When you reach the hilltop, you can see the large bronze statue of the "god of destruction" Vishnu. Although only the head and chest are completed, the very lifelike facial expression still looks impressive. The arms of the "god of destruction" are placed beside a small path in the middle of the hill, so you can look for them. If you walk further in, you will see the giant statue of a condor's head facing the flat square in front. This square was excavated from the mountain with large excavators. The high and neat stone walls around the square were originally planned to be carved with Hindu inscriptions and mythological stories.Indonesia · Bali
