Lianhua ancient cave, located in Dingnan street, Puding county, Anshun, is approx. 110 km from downtown Guiyang. It is a rare cultural ancient cave and early cave wonder in Guizhou. Named for its entrance resembling a blooming lotus, it is hailed as the "underground art palace". The stalactites, stalagmites, and stone curtains inside the cave are uniquely shaped like stone lotuses compared to other caves, formed by "dripping water creating stone lotuses", hence the name "Lianhua ancient cave".Puding · 1.2 km from downtown

Loong Palace attraction is located in the southern suburbs of Anshun, adjacent to Huangguoshu scenic area. It consists of three parts: the western Loong Palace central area featuring the essence of karst caves, the eastern Loong Palace scenic area - Xuantang showcasing pastoral scenery, and Qunfang valley - a small hilly area between them. There are various ways to explore Loong Palace: you can visit just the central area and return, take a boat tour followed by hiking through Qunfang valley before continuing by boat to Loong Palace scenic area - Xuantang, or explore in reverse order. Huangguoshu Scenic Area

The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Anshun, Guizhou, centered around the Huangguoshu Waterfall. Surrounded by deep gorges, dense vegetation, and dotted with limestone caves and stone forests, it is a typical karst landscape area. The waterfall's name originates from the locally abundant "Huangguoshu" (Ficus virens). Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake visited and documented this site, contributing to its fame. The scenic area primarily consists of three main sections: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. Most travelers follow the sequence of Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and finally the Great Waterfall, saving the most spectacular view for last. The grand waterfall has a drop of nearly 80 m and a width of over 100 m. The Baishui River plunges from the cliff top into Rhinoceros Pool, creating a vast mist. Multiple viewing platforms around it allow visitors to experience its grandeur, wonder, steepness, and beauty from different angles—above, below, front, back, left, and right. A particularly unique experience lies behind the waterfall: a 100 m long Water Curtain Cave runs horizontally through its midsection, featuring cave windows and halls. Reaching through a window, one can touch the cascading water. The cave served as the filming location for the Water Curtain Cave in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. Due to the heavy humidity inside, bringing a raincoat in advance is recommended. Tianxing Bridge is renowned for its harmonious blend of rocks, water, trees, and caves—where rocks rise from the water, caves hide within rocks, and trees stand beside caves. The stepping stones along the path are engraved with dates, allowing travelers to find their own "birthday stone." The attraction is divided into upper and lower sections. Many travelers turn back after completing the upper section, missing the Silver Chain Waterfall in the lower part—where water cascades like silver chains into a funnel-shaped pool, the highlight of Tianxing Bridge. The Doupotang waterfall is located approx. 1 km upstream from the grand waterfall. With a width of over 100 m at its crest, the water spreads out smoothly like a beaded curtain. During the high-water season, its deep roar earns it the nickname "roaring waterfall." The scene of the four pilgrims leading their horse across the river in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West was filmed here. In summer and fall, the waterfalls are full and powerful, while in winter and spring, the flow becomes gentler, offering different viewing experiences. Nearby, visitors can also enjoy local snacks like sticky rice, love tofu, and Anshun spring rolls.Zhenning · 35.6 km from Puding

Anshun Ancient City Historical and Cultural District is located in the heart of the old town of Anshun. The ancient city was first built in the 14th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1381). It was initially a military garrison. Later, thanks to its location as the "belly of Guizhou and throat of Yunnan," it gradually became an important commercial hub on the Yunnan-Guizhou trade route. Over the past 600+ years, the layout of the old streets and many old buildings have been preserved. Within the district, grey-tiled wooden houses and slate-paved alleys interweave, with Central Guizhou-style old residences, temples, and traditional storefronts mixed together. The highlights of the district are quite concentrated: Rulin Road is a well-preserved old street, with an approx. 600m long slate road lined with old wooden houses, now home to many artistic shops;Confucian Temple, Wumiao Temple, and the Former Residence of Wang Ruofei are old buildings scattered throughout the area, which can be visited along the way; the Guancheng River flows through the old town. After nightfall, lanterns along the river light up, and their reflections on the water are a scene many tourists come specifically to photograph. The Paotai Street area gathers authentic Anshun flavors such as Guojuan, small pot jelly, grilled small intestines, and Jianfen, while the district also features shops selling handicrafts and intangible cultural heritage handmade goods.Anshun · 20.1 km from Puding

Tonggudang is a natural stone forest depression hidden among the mountains of Anshun, Guizhou. Surrounded by mountains, the valley floor is open, with stretches of ink-black stone forests scattered across the meadows. These stones take on varied shapes, with some resembling cattle or horses lying at rest, others looking like crouching giant beasts, and some appearing like winding city walls. Looking down from a height, the continuous stone patterns stretch out layer by layer, like dragon scales covering the earth, which is why locals call it the "Dragon Scale Wonderland." Its name comes from the unique geological sounds found here. During the rainy season, groundwater rushes against the cave walls and underground rivers at the bottom of the valley, creating a deep, booming sound similar to a bronze drum that echoes through the valley, which is how "Tonggudang" got its name. The scenic area covers over 1,000 mu and features a primitive hiking loop of over 10 km, winding through stone forest mazes, meadow pastures, and underground rivers in caves. The open, flat lawn areas are specifically designed for camping. Surrounded by mountains and stone forests, it largely retains the primitive charm of the wilderness.Anshun · 23.5 km from Puding

It's worth a visit, though quite tiring; we probably took the easiest route. From the visitor center, take the sightseeing bus to the scenic area entrance, then walk one kilometer along the river to Longmen Waterfall. Take the elevator up, then walk 800 meters to Tianchi for the boat tour. Take the boat into the Dragon Palace twice, but don't get off at the second entrance (from there you have to walk an hour and a half to Xuantang). Return by boat to Tianchi, then walk to the scenic area exit, then another kilometer through Buyi Town to the sightseeing bus station. Take the sightseeing bus back to the visitor center. The whole trip takes about three and a half hours.

I've visited Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area three times over 30 years. It's considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Asia, and the town of Huangguoshu is also quite well-developed. Although the water flow was lower this year, it was still incredibly magnificent, powerful, and thunderous. This time, I had the opportunity to fully appreciate the unique features of the waterfalls in all three sections. If the main waterfall is the head of the family, powerful and imposing, then the upstream Doupotang Waterfall is the steady son, refined and elegant, while the downstream Yinlian Waterfall is the emerald green jade, endlessly captivating and always brimming with charm!

Similar to ancient cities across the country, the ancient city is not big, there is no one during the day, it is very quiet, very close to the city center, but far from the high-speed rail station, it takes more than 20 minutes by taxi, and it is also a famous attraction in Anshun

Nestled amidst karst peaks, the village of stone houses is rustic and tranquil, with rice paddies and green mountains creating a picturesque scene. The Ming Dynasty stone arch bridge, covered in vines, bears witness to the vicissitudes of time. Stone walls, stone tiles, and stone millstones showcase the characteristics of a "stone architecture museum." The ox horn bronze drum sculpture at the entrance conveys a rich Buyi ethnic culture. Overall, it is a well-preserved original ecological ethnic village.

Anshun Longgong "Eye of the Great Sage" Scenic Spot In-depth Review ‌ ‌ Scenic Spot Features ‌ ‌ Natural Wonders ‌: The secret realm of karst caves, formed by the reflection of Tianmen Cave and underground river, resembles the facial contour of "Monkey King", with eyes and nose bridge clearly visible, known as the "real version of Fire Eyes and Golden Pupils" ‌12. It includes geological wonders such as tiankeng groups, cave underground rivers, and stalactite columns, which were formed by tens of thousands of years of dissolution. The sky-supporting stone pillars in the cave support the huge cave, which is extremely visually impactful ‌12. ‌ Original Ecological Experience ‌: Undeveloped wild scenic spots, no commercial facilities, retaining the original mountain roads, cave groups and rural roads, suitable for outdoor enthusiasts who pursue adventure ‌12. Along the way, you may occasionally encounter wild animals such as bats, swallows, and macaques. The vegetation is dense, the air is transparent after rain, and the pastoral scenery and waterfalls complement each other ‌12. ‌Hiking routes and difficulty‌ ‌Route selection‌: ‌Small loop‌: about 4 kilometers, suitable for people with average physical strength; ‌Large loop‌: 8-18 kilometers, need to cross Tianyin Mountain, Longgong Tunnel, etc., highly challenging‌2. The core landscape requires rock climbing to the bottom of the valley, and some sections require hands and feet, without protective measures, and it is not recommended for the elderly and children‌23. ‌Seasonal influence‌: The flood discharge period in the rainy season (around June) may flood some areas, the road is slippery and muddy, but the waterfall is more spectacular; the dry season is safer‌2. ‌Precautions and risks‌ ‌Safety warning‌: The road conditions are steep and there are many forks. Tourists have fallen off the cliff and needed rescue. It is recommended to be equipped with a guide, helmet and headlamp‌2. Some sections require going down the stone wall or rock climbing. Trekking poles become a burden, so you need to travel light‌24. ‌Transportation and parking‌: The navigation "Eye of the Great Sage" is accessible, but the road is narrow, it is difficult to pass the car, and it is easy to get stuck in the peak season, so parking needs to be planned in advance‌24. ‌Comprehensive evaluation‌ ‌Recommended people‌: Outdoor enthusiasts who are physically fit and love adventure, and photographers/hikers who pursue niche secrets. ‌Disadvantages‌: Lack of supporting facilities, high risk, not suitable for leisure travel or family travel‌23. ‌Summary in one sentence‌: Shocking natural wonders and extreme wildness coexist, but "danger" and "beauty" are equally prominent, so you need to do what you can‌12. Note: It is currently June 2025, the non-rainy season flood discharge period, but there are frequent rainfalls in summer. It is recommended to check the weather before traveling and take precautions.
