Things to do in Qilian

I was fortunate enough to encounter autumn snow in Qilian County, and the mountains of Zhuoer Mountain were blanketed in silver. Shepherds grazed their sheep on the mountaintop meadows, and the view from the observation deck was exceptionally magnificent. Transportation: Take a bus from Xining to Qilian County, then a taxi to Zhuoer Mountain Scenic Area. During the off-season, the scenic area shuttle bus is not running; you can ask the driver to take you directly to the visitor center. There are sightseeing buses within the scenic area that go directly to the summit platform. Dining: Limited options during the off-season; you'll need to find your own food. Delivery services are limited and do not deliver to guesthouses near the scenic area. Seeing the snow-capped mountains, forests, meadows, and Danxia landforms made the trip worthwhile!

From Zhangye, go directly to Zhuoer Mountain via Erga Highway via Sunan. The first picture is the scene of the road construction. In fact, the whole mountain collapsed. No wonder it took so long to repair. The road is not difficult to drive, but there are falling rocks along the way. When you reach the top of the mountain, you can see the snow-capped mountains. Finally, we went to Menyuan, took a few photos of rapeseed flowers, and then stayed in Xining. After walking for 16 hours a day, I was really tired.

Binggou Forest Sea is an important scenic spot in Qilian Mountains and the essence of the natural primitive scenic area. The scenic area is densely covered with primitive forests, snow-capped mountains, forests, shrubs, grasslands, and winding mountain roads that shuttle through the mountains, giving it a Swiss feeling.

Arou Monastery, officially known as Xihongfazhou in Arou County, is a Gelugpa Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in Arou Township, Qilian County, Qinghai Province. It was founded by the Arou tribe. Initially a meditation room, it was established during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty by the Third Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso, who preached and laid the foundation there. Later, he donated the monastery to Ali Darhan Qujie (also known as Ali Hutuktu). The Second Dalai Lama, Lobsang Danba Reji, was born in the Arou tribe, studied in Tibet, and oversaw the expansion of the monastery. The Third Dalai Lama, Sangdanba Darji, established a Mahayana Buddhist college, perfected the Dharma assembly system, and increased the number of monks to 400. During the Shunzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, with the permission of the Fifth Dalai Lama, the monastery was formally built in Zhongta, initially named "Juxi Hongfazhou". The monastery initially existed as a "tent monastery," moving with the nomadic tribes. During the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, the Arou tribe migrated north to its current location and rebuilt it. After moving to its current location in 1948, it consisted of a yurt-style scripture hall and yak-hair tents. It developed into the largest Gelugpa monastery in Qilian County in the 1940s, and before 1958 it had 5 halls, 840 monks' quarters, and 250 monks. After 1980, scripture halls, monks' quarters, and yurt-style Buddhist halls were built one after another. The existing buildings cover an area of ​​66,700 square meters and house ancient scriptures and precious cultural relics. In 2003 and 2008, it was listed as a county-level and provincial-level cultural relics protection unit, respectively.

The ancient city of Ebao was built between 1206 and 1279 AD. It is 3,645 meters above sea level. It is a major transportation route to the Hexi Corridor and a must-go place from Qilian to Menyuan and Xining. It is an important post station, tea-horse trade and military fortress on the southern route of the ancient Silk Road. It is known as the northern gate of Qinghai. The town in front of us is located under the blue sky and white clouds, with snow-capped mountains behind it. It is probably the legendary fairy tale town.

The Qilian Scenic Tourist Area is located in Qilian County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Due to the "beauty of integration" of the Qilian Mountain grassland, it was rated as one of the six most beautiful grasslands in China. Niuxin Mountain was rated as "one of the top 100 famous summer resorts in China". The Qilian Deer Farm was shortlisted for the first batch of national traditional Chinese medicine health tourism demonstration base creation units. The Zhuoer Mountain rapeseed landscape was awarded the title of "China's Beautiful Countryside" by the Ministry of Agriculture. The Zhuoer Mountain Amidongso Scenic Area was named a national ecological tourism demonstration area, and the "Qilian Scenic Tourist Area" was rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction.

First of all, I would like to thank the staff of the scenic spot. We went to the scenic spot at 8 am on July 20th and took the first bus up the mountain. Because it rained the day before, it was foggy in the morning. When we reached the top of the mountain, visibility was very low and it started to thunder, so we hurried down the mountain. After returning to the visitor center, we were ready to leave, but the staff told us that it might be sunny later and we could wait for it to clear up before going up the mountain again. We waited for half an hour with a skeptical attitude, and the sky suddenly cleared up. After taking the bus up the mountain again, we finally saw a different beautiful scenery. The scenic spot is still under construction. There are currently three different viewing areas, upper, middle and lower, with different scenery and vegetation types. If you encounter special weather with poor visibility, the staff of the scenic spot will persuade tourists not to go up the mountain for the time being, which is very professional.
