Edge of the World is located on the ridge of the Tuwaiq Mountains, approx. 100 km northwest of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is a famous viewing spot along this massive escarpment that stretches for hundreds of km. The cliff top is over 1 km above sea level, with a vertical drop of approx. 300 m. The cliff's rock layers were formed by ancient marine deposits from hundreds of millions of years ago that were raised by geological uplift, with clear, distinct layers that resemble Earth's tree rings; below the cliff lies a vast desert and dried-up ancient riverbeds, with views extending all the way to the horizon. The area at the foot of the cliff was once part of an ancient trade route that crossed the Arabian Peninsula, connecting Yemen and the Levant region.
