Things to do in Tamana District

This is the largest amusement park in Kyushu, with many rides and attractions. Because it's so big, you don't have to wait long even on Sundays. I rode more than ten different roller coasters and was very satisfied. There are also many food options and Kumamoto-themed souvenirs in the park at reasonable prices, and you can also dine outside the park.

Kumamoto Castle is full of ingenuity. In my mind, the castle ruins are truly magnificent. Most astonishing are the piles of stones beneath the walls. They were rolled down during the Kumamoto earthquake. While progress is slow, they will one day be rebuilt.

There were no people and the transportation access was poor. But it was an adventure and fun.

Yamaga City is a post town and hot spring resort in Kumamoto, and has been bustling since ancient times. At the foot of a small mountain slightly away from the city of Yamaga, there is a historic temple called Nichirinji Temple. There is a huge Buddha statue called Bindulu Zenji, which is 30 meters high. Climb up the back mountain to see that 35,000 azaleas have been planted here to create the Nichirinji Azalea Park. Red, white, pink, colorful azaleas are blooming, dyeing the hillside with a brilliant color. The top of the mountain is 142 meters high and the distance is about 800 meters. You can enjoy a walk in the warm sunshine while admiring the beautiful azaleas.
