Mauritius is an island formed by volcanic eruptions, and the Trou Aux Cerfs Volcano on the central plateau sits on a dormant volcano with a conical crater. It is one of Mauritius's most iconic attractions and the origin of the island, as this volcano was among the earlier ones to emerge above the sea. Mountain environment Because the volcano is dormant, the area around the crater is now filled with houses and overgrown with vegetation. The plant cover, like a green carpet, gives new life to the otherwise quiet volcano. Scenery along the way The crater is approx. 600m above sea level. To see it, you can charter a car to get there. The drive follows winding, rolling country roads into a quiet, upscale residential area, then continues up a steep slope to a parking lot. From there, you need to hike a steep trail to reach the rim of the crater. Scenery on the hike During the ascent you will pass pavilions, benches, and well-maintained lawns where visitors can rest or have a picnic. If you climb in the afternoon, you can enjoy a beautiful, romantic sunset. After following the steep path to the top, you can take in the surrounding scenery, with rolling mountains and lush green plains as far as the eye can see. Summit views The summit has railings you can hold onto, and you can clearly see that the crater is well preserved. Over time, rain and sediment have partially filled the crater. During the rainy season, a small pool forms at the bottom. In dry weather, the crater is dry. You can see dense thorny shrubs and trees growing on the crater walls, and the abundant vegetation gives the dormant volcano a green, living appearance. Without a guide's explanation, you might not realize this was once a violently erupting volcano. The area was once frequented by small deer, which is why it was called Trou Aux Cerfs, but today there are so many visitors that the deer have been scared away. From the high viewpoint, you can take photos and enjoy the distant views. Then walk down from the high point; a path to the right circles the crater, and from that path you can overlook Mauritius's central plains. Local vendors along the way sell souvenirs, so you can enjoy the scenery while browsing their local specialty items. Follow the path to the other side of the crater and you will find the same quiet, solemn sight. What was once a place where lava roared and surged in ancient times is now covered in lush vegetation. A natural vertical curtain of water still falls inward, a silvery waterfall hanging against the crater's green walls, creating a poetic scene. There are also some beautiful houses and gardens around the crater that you can visit. Afterward, you can go into town to experience local residents' way of life and enjoy their folk culture.

The debris and volcanic ash left by ancient volcanic activity have weathered over many years in the hot, humid climate. The iron, aluminum, and other minerals they contain have oxidized in varying proportions, gradually creating layers of red, brown, purple, blue, and green bands. These bands spread out along the undulating hills, resembling, from a distance, a piece of colorful silk wrinkled by the wind, cascading down from the lush forest. The sand dune area is small and enclosed by railings and boardwalks. Visitors can walk along the viewing platforms to look down. From different angles, they can see the subtle changes in the direction and intensity of the color bands, which are especially distinct when sunlight shines obliquely. The sand dunes themselves are barren, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding lush vegetation and adding a touch of mystery.

Diverse architecture The architecture at Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) is fascinating. Most of the structures here were built by the British, who constructed castles in various styles. The fortress on the hill is named Fort Adelaide and has a history of over 180 years. Like the Great Wall of China, every brick and tile was laid by human hands, though the area is much smaller than the Great Wall. Today, a few cannons remain mounted high, still exuding their former power. The fortress once fell into ruin after years of abandonment but was renovated in the 1990s. You can see the different charms it offers when viewing Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) from different angles. Panoramic views At Citadelle (Fort Adelaide), you can enjoy views in two directions. One side is dominated by mountains, where you can see the racecourse. The racing season runs from May to December each year. If you visit Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) on a Saturday afternoon, you might catch a race. The other side offers sea views, primarily of the harbor. On this side, you can see cannons and telescopes, which allow you to view the distant scenery up close. There are some small shops inside Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) where photography is prohibited. Items are also quite expensive, so shopping there is not recommended.

Baie du Cap is a small headland on the southwest coast of Mauritius that juts into the South Indian Ocean. It is named for its remote location facing the open ocean, as if one has reached the end of the land. The coastal road here makes a sharp U-turn around the giant rock at the tip of the headland. Taking a photo from above the rock, capturing the road and the blue sea in the same frame, is a highly recognizable scene on the southwest coastline. Climb the stone steps to the small observation deck on top of the rock to enjoy the sea breeze, with the deep blue Indian Ocean on one side and the winding coastline on the other. In the evening, this is a great spot to watch the sunset over the sea as the sun slowly sinks into the Indian Ocean on one side of the headland. The beach is also scattered with round reefs of various sizes. At low tide, as seawater flows through the crevices between the rocks, it creates a series of wonderful sounds.

It's worth going. The giant tortoises, lions, and the last wild reserve, antelopes, and giraffes all look different from those in China. The foreign lady who exchanged the tickets was very responsible.

Deer Cave Crater is a famous attraction in Mauritius. The view from afar is very shocking, and I sigh at the power of nature. It is really simple and magical. It is said that this is a dead volcano, but it is magnificent and majestic! Very beautiful!

Mauritius has seven colors. Actually, there are three colors (black, red, and khaki). The other four colors depend on your luck. When the sunlight is just right, they can be refracted, but it is still very difficult to take pictures. I will take you to see the dead mouth along the way!

Tamarin does not offer the clearest sea water but is one of the dolphins favorite morning spots. Book a kayaking tour from one of the local companies to bring you dolphin watching or explore Rivière Tamarin. An excellent way to see things from a different angle and travel more responsibly.

Black River Gorges National Park is a very important national park in Mauritius. I came here during the rainy season. Although we couldn’t see far away, it had a different kind of hazy beauty. Because of the rain, there were fewer tourists and the entire national park was our world.

Fort Hill in Port Louis, Mauritius is a defensive fortress with a history of more than 400 years. Now it is the best place to appreciate Port Louis, because its terrain is very high and it overlooks the whole Port Louis. It is a famous attraction here and must not be missed.
