Wuhu Ancient City
No. 17 of Night Attractions in Anhui

Wuhu Ancient City

5.6
Wuhu Ancient Cityis situated in the old town on the north bank of the Qingyi River in Wuhu. The existing street layout largely retains the appearance from the reconstruction during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, where old houses and shops are intertwined with daily life. Old streets such as Huajie, Nanzheng Street, and Rulin Street preserve the Hui-style architecture with bluestone roads and white walls with black tiles. The carved doors and windows of the old houses along the streets are quite exquisite, with Nanzheng Street having been a bustling commercial street as early as the Ming Dynasty. The city is packed with sights: you can ascend the iconic Changhong Gate tower to overlook the rolling black-tiled roofs and the nearby Qingyi River; in the Wuhu County Yamen, you can see the main hall, the second hall, and the prison cells, where "courtroom trial" reenactments are often performed; the Rice Market Museum tells the story of Wuhu's past as one of China's "Four Major Rice Markets." The ancient city is ideal for admiring architectural details during the day, and the atmosphere becomes even more immersive at night when the lanterns are lit one by one. Consider entering around dusk to enjoy both the day and night views.Wuhu · 1.7 km from downtown

Tianmen Mountain

Tianmen Mountain

4.5
Tianmen Mountain is located in Daqiao Town, Jiujiang District, Wuhu City. For thousands of years, Tianmen Mountain has attracted celebrities and poets of all dynasties with its unique mountain-shaped water potential and rich historical and cultural heritage. When I traveled here, I left the well-known quatrain "Looking at Tianmen Mountain": "Tianmen interrupts the opening of the Chu River, the clear water flows eastward here, and the green mountains on both sides of the strait face each other, and the lonely sails come to the edge of the sun." There are two rare cultural landscapes at the foot of Tianmen Mountain. The first is Tianmen Academy with a long history. It was founded in 1246 AD. It is equally famous as Jixi Guizhi Academy, Yingzhou West Lake Academy and Shexian Ziyang Academy. The second is the unique Bronze Buddha Temple, which is surrounded by mountains and rivers and has excellent scenery. For many years, it has attracted believers from all over the country to come to burn incense and worship Buddha. Therefore, it was rated as one of the new ten scenic spots in Wuhu City, "Tianmen Smoke Waves" Tianmen Mountain is the collective name of East and West Liangshan.Wuhu · 18.8 km from downtown

Fantasy Kingdom is indeed a bit old; its rides and attractions aren't as good as Oriental Mythology, and it closes at 5:30 PM. However, the shows are still quite good. I watched most of the shows and performances, and only went on a few rides before it was almost over. Oriental Mythology has a wider variety of more exciting rides, and I had a great time even though it closes at 9 PM.

Although the scenic area I visited wasn't large, the discounted package deal was incredibly cost-effective! There weren't many people when I went, so there were no queues for any of the facilities, making for a perfect experience. The rafting only ran once an hour because there were few tourists, and we waited a little while, but it was totally worth it. The glass walkway wasn't very clean, which actually made it less scary, haha. I have to give it five stars, mainly because it's super pet-friendly! I took my dog on the cable car, walked on the glass walkway, went on the glass rafting, and the zipline – everything was seamless and we had a blast!

The architecture is unique, but some of the interiors look a bit eerie (mostly due to the lighting). The special effects in each pavilion are amazing, and the rides are quite fun. The "Soul Journey" only offered the thrill of the roller coaster; the haunted house wasn't very scary. (P.S.: The restrooms are really well-designed. Although the drinks and bottled water inside are a bit pricey, some restrooms have free 55°C water dispensers, which is very thoughtful.)

One of my favorite small attractions in Wuhu Ancient City is Zhanchuan Bookstore, which was originally a government office in the late Qing Dynasty and is a two-story Western-style house. When you walk into the bookstore, it is hard not to be attracted by the brightly colored and beautifully patterned floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The Western-style windows and the undecorated mottled walls form an indescribable harmonious beauty. Standing there, holding a book in hand, you can quietly feel the flow of time and the precipitation of years.

The place is quite large, and it wasn't too crowded during the May Day holiday. The scenery was nice, but the food selection wasn't very extensive. I watched a few performances and spent some time lying on the covered bridge over the river, which was very comfortable. The prices were a bit high.

Well, it was alright. The performers were very enthusiastic. Although we didn't get to stay for too long due to the weather, and there weren't too many people during the Chinese New Year, it was clear that the scenic area was very well-managed.

Tianmen Mountain, a small scenic spot, is famous for Li Bai's poem "Looking at Tianmen Mountain". Here the mountains are majestic, the river is gurgling, and the scenery on both sides is endless. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can overlook the entire river and feel the poetic feeling of "the green mountains on both sides face each other, and a lone sail comes from the sun".

Xihe Town is an ancient port in southern Henan Province that is steeped in the fragrance of tea. The long bluestone street winds like a dragon's spine, with old houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties on both sides. The red sandstone wall foundation holds up the carved wooden building, and the tea plaques drying under the eaves are rolling in the green waves. The stone steps of the ancient wharf are submerged in the tributary of the Huaihe River. Although the grand scene of thousands of tea boats in the old days has passed, the sound of the pestle of the laundry woman still breaks the sparkling waves. The most colorful place is the tea market - the beams and pillars of the century-old tea shop are filled with tea smoke, and the rustling sound of the iron pan frying new leaves, the cocoon patterns between the fingers of the tea farmers and the veins of the baskets tremble at the same frequency. The mottled stage of the boat gang hall is hidden in the deep alley, and the residual warmth of the merchant gang's secret language remains under the flying eaves; the broken walls of the ancient village are covered with vines, and golden chrysanthemums and yellow flowers peek out from the gaps in the arrow crevices. There is no pretentious "ancient town" label here, only the shoulder pole bent by the tea basket and the steam rising from the purple clay teapot in the old teahouse, which have boiled 600 years of commercial port memories into mellow tea soup. You can taste the warmth of time in every sip.
