It was originally a refuge for the Aztec wanderers, and later became a summer retreat for the wealthy Aztecs. Formerly used as a military academy, a weather station, it is now a Museum of History (Museo Nacional de Historia). Located in Zone 1 of Chapultepec Park, the in-house museum showcases a long period of history. The symbolic objects of various periods are fascinating. In addition, the museum also has exquisite murals, such as panoramic murals in the sixth exhibition hall. In addition, a large number of paintings, photos and documents are collected here.Mexico City · 19.9 km from Xochimilco

National Autonomous University of Mexicois the main campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, located on a rocky plain formed by volcanic lava in the southern part of Mexico City. The campus was built between 1949 and 1952 and was designed by more than 60 architects, engineers, and artists; the university's predecessor can be traced back to the Royal and Pontifical University founded in 1551, with its early buildings concentrated in the historic city center before gradually moving to this new campus in the 1950s. The campus highlights focus on the combination of modernist architecture and murals: the ten-story facade of the Central Library is entirely covered by Juan O'Gorman's giant mosaic mural, with the four facades depicting indigenous civilization before the arrival of the Spanish, the colonial era, and modern Mexico, respectively. It is recognizable from across the lawn and has almost become the campus's calling card.Coyoacan · 11.6 km from Xochimilco

The temple, which sits at the center of the Aztec world, was destroyed by Spanish colonists in 1521 and is now in ruins. There is a museum in the Great Temple, displaying the remains of archaeological discoveries, which is a good demonstration of the ancient civilization of the Aztecs. Entering the ruins of the Great Temple, people can approach it layer by layer along the route excavated by archaeologists. Next to the ruins is the 4-story Museo del Templo Mayor (Museo del Templo Mayor).Mexico City · 20 km from Xochimilco

Xochimilco Ecological Park

Xochimilco Ecological Parklocated in the Xochimilco borough in the south of Mexico City, is an urban ecological park built on canals and wetlands. At its heart is the ancient "chinampa" agricultural system: during the Aztec period, ancestors built artificial floating fields on the lake using mud and plants to grow vegetables and flowers, and the waterways left between these fields have become the intricate network of canals seen today. This farming method, which has continued for hundreds of years, is still in use today. When passing by boat, you can see farmers working on the floating fields and the lakeside scenery with rows of willow trees growing along the water's edge. The ecological park features lakes, wetlands, walking trails, and viewing areas, and is home to over 200 species of native and migratory birds, as well as an important habitat for endemic species such as the axolotl. Visitors can walk or cycle along the canals, or take a ride on a colorful traditional wooden boat, known as a "trajinera," to navigate the waterways. Along the way, you can often see flower fields, wetland birds, and scenes of local daily life.Xochimilco · 4.5 km from downtown

Historic center of Mexico Cityis the historic core of Mexico City, extending outwards from the center, and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1987. This area was built on the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire, where Spanish conquistadors began rebuilding the city in the 16th century, allowing Aztec ruins and colonial architecture to coexist in the same neighborhood. The entire historic center brings together a vast number of historical buildings from the 16th-century colonial period to the early 20th century, and strolling through it, you can experience the layering and fusion of three historical eras: Aztec civilization, the Spanish colonial period, and modern Mexico.Mexico City · 20.1 km from Xochimilco

Constitution Plaza

4.4/5
145 reviews
Constitution Plaza is the main square in the historic center of Mexico City, though locals prefer to call it by its nickname, "Zócalo." This open space, with sides about 240m long and covering nearly 60,000 square meters, sits on the former site of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire—after the Spanish destroyed the ancient city, they planned the plaza on the original site in the 16th century. In the 18th century, it became famous for the Parian Market, a hub for merchants. For hundreds of years, it has remained the center of city celebrations and daily life. The name "Constitution" comes from the Spanish Constitution of Cádiz of 1812, while "Zócalo" comes from an interesting piece of history: in the 19th century, there was a plan to build an independence monument in the plaza, but only the base (called "zócalo" in Spanish) was completed. Although the base was long ago removed, the name has stuck and has even become the common term for the main squares in many Mexican cities. Today, the plaza is surrounded by iconic buildings: to the north is the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, which blends various colonial styles; the National Palace on the east side houses massive murals by Rivera; to the west is the historic National Pawn Shop building; and the Templo Mayor ruins are located just to the northeast. The Zócalo subway station is right next to the plaza. A flagpole about 50m tall stands in the center of the plaza, where soldiers hold flag-raising and lowering ceremonies every morning and evening. Major celebrations and cultural performances are also often held here. On the eve of Independence Day in mid-September each year, the plaza is filled with celebratory crowds.Mexico City · 19.8 km from Xochimilco

Av. P.º de la Reforma

Av. P.º de la Reforma is an iconic main thoroughfare in Mexico City, stretching over 10 km, cutting diagonally across the city center and connecting theChapultepecarea with the old town. It was planned after the pattern of European boulevards like the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Originally, it was a royal road built during the reign of Emperor Maximilian to connect the National Palace and Chapultepec Castle. After the fall of the empire, it was renamed to commemorate the "Reform." The road layout still retains the feel of an old-fashioned boulevard: a wide expressway in the center, with rows of greenery and gardens separating the side roads from the sidewalks. Almost every roundabout along the route features a monument or sculpture. The centerpiece of the entire avenue is the Angel of Independence—a victory column about 36m high, topped with a golden statue of the Winged Victory. The column houses the remains of independence war heroes like Hidalgo. The nearby Diana the Huntress Fountain and the Cuauhtémoc Monument are also worth a stop. On most Sunday mornings, a section of the city center is closed to motor vehicles, giving the road over to cyclists, rollerbladers, and joggers. This long-standing Sunday car-free event has become a permanent fixture of the avenue. When the jacaranda trees bloom in spring, the entire street is enveloped in a sea of lavender flowers; the eastern section is lined with high-rises, where skyscrapers and monuments intermingle along the street.Mexico City · 21 km from Xochimilco

Located in the south of Mexico City, the Pyramid of Cuiculco is the oldest pyramid in the Americas. The pyramid was excavated from 8 meters thick volcanic lava in 1922. It is 20 meters high, the bottom layer is 135 meters in diameter, and the upper layer is 70 meters in diameter. It is composed of 4 different cone cross-sections stacked on each other, which is very spectacular. The more prominent features of the "Kukulko" pyramid: the steps are sharp and angular, expressed in straight line outlines, straight and clear, and each part is drawn like a ruler. The four steps of the tower lead to the Tai Temple, each with 91 steps. All the steps plus the top floor are exactly the 365 days of the Maya year. Both sides of the steps are 1-meter wide side walls. Yuxing's large snake head stone carving, the snake head is 1.43 meters high, 1.80 meters long, 1.07 meters wide, and a large tongue sticks out of the snake's mouth, which is quite unique. In the afternoon of the spring and autumn equinox, there will be snake shadows near the pyramid. Wonder: When the sun begins to set in the west, the part of the north wall that is exposed to sunlight gradually changes from straight to wavy from top to bottom, until the head of the snake, like a giant python crawling down from the top of the tower, due to the relationship of sunlight , The body of the snake has 7 isosceles triangles arranged in a row, just like the pattern on the back of the python. As the sun goes down, the shadow of the snake gradually disappears.Mexico City · 9.6 km from Xochimilco

Chapultepec Castle is a truly unique place. It is the only royal castle on the American continent, having served as a military fortress, royal palace, and presidential residence for centuries, and is now a historical museum. This weathered castle sits atop the lush Chapultepec Hill, overlooking the entire city.

It is very large and spacious here, and at the same time very artistic. Basically every building is covered with graffiti. There are very few modern teaching buildings. Most of them are old buildings from the past, but they are very impressive.

On Saturday morning, I took a walk in Mexico City, where traffic suddenly became less, and the air suddenly became better. I walked 2.5 kilometers and felt the joy of exercise. I saw many people in the park area on holidays, and I saw children happily visiting the zoo. Although there were not many animals, the natural ecology was well maintained.

Mexico City's Constitution Square is the center of the city. It is said that the very simple buildings around the square are where the president's office is located. As long as you register, you can enter the building for a visit. There is also a magnificent church with amazing interior decoration.

Mexico City's most famous road is probably also the widest. The Independence Column is located on Reforma Avenue. In addition, there are similar monuments and sculptures at almost every major intersection. The center of the road is the fast lane, and the side is the slow lane. There are sidewalks and green spaces between the two, and pedestrians can stroll on them.

Nice place for family and friends. Every season they have new things and once a year they add or remove games to make it more enjoyable. Very recommended and you should get your tickets online if you want to save time and some cash. The parking lot cost so don't forget to bring extra cash for that and for the food. I recommend the pizza it's really delicious and fast service.

The pyramids here are completely different from those in Egypt. The circular pyramids built during the Yama civilization era have a history of thousands of years. The tour guide will tell you the story of the pyramids. Tourists who are interested in the Yama civilization should not miss it.
