Maoshan, the birthplace of Taoism, is located in Jurong City, Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province. It is a famous Taoist mountain in China, known as "the First Blessed Land and the Eighth Grotto-Heaven," and is a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Scenic Area Overview Maoshan is situated in the heart of Nanjing, Zhenjiang, and Changzhou cities. Its main peak, Damao Peak, reaches an altitude of 372.5 meters, and the scenic area covers approximately 71.2 square kilometers. It is not only the birthplace of the Shangqing School of Taoism but also a famous anti-Japanese base area, integrating natural landscapes, cultural landscapes, forest landscapes, and revolutionary historical sites. Jiuxiao Wanfu Palace (Top Palace) Located atop Damao Peak, the main peak of Maoshan, it is the core building of the Maoshan Taoist temple complex. Originally built during the Western Han Dynasty, it has a history of over 2100 years. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, it was bestowed the name "Jiuxiao Wanfu Palace" and is a must-visit place for pilgrims. Yuanfu Wanning Palace (Yin Palace) Located on the southern slope of Jijin Peak, it is named after a jade seal, one of the Eight Treasures of Maoshan, bestowed upon it by Emperor Zhezong of the Song Dynasty. The most striking feature inside is the magnificent 33-meter-tall golden open-air statue of Laozi. Chongxi Wanshou Palace Located northwest of Damao Peak, it was originally the Qulin Hall built during the Southern Dynasties. It is an important site for the inheritance and development of Taoist culture, frequently hosting Taoist cultural activities. Huayang Cave A famous karst cave in Maoshan, its entrance bears the three large characters "Huayang Cave" in the handwriting of Su Dongpo from the Song Dynasty. Inside, stalactites and stalagmites create various unique landscapes. Xike Spring The spring water is crystal clear and flows year-round. When visitors clap their hands, bubbles rise from the spring, as if welcoming guests, making it one of Maoshan's distinctive natural landscapes. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are the best seasons to visit, with mild weather and pleasant scenery. Maoshan is a beautiful place to visit in all four seasons. In spring, the mountains are covered in wildflowers, in autumn, the forests are ablaze with color, and in winter, you can enjoy the snow scenery.
