Woyun Temple is the only remaining ancient temple on the highest peak of Mount Emei, with an altitude of about 3,064 meters. It was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. Because the temple is surrounded by white clouds under the rock and lies in the clouds, it is named "Woyun Temple". The building was dilapidated at the end of the Ming Dynasty and was rebuilt in the second year of the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the roof was covered with tin tiles. Whenever the clouds opened and the sun rose, it was shining silver, so it was called the "Silver Top" of Emei. After several fires, it was rebuilt several times. The existing building was repaired in 1953. After 1989, it was repaired several times by the monks of the temple, the Buddha statues were rebuilt, and the mountain gate and the main hall were restored. In 2005, the Emei Mountain Buddhist Association repaired it again. It was completed in June 2006, restoring the solemnity of the "Silver World".
