Traveling to Moscow, Russia for 4 nights and 5 days
I traveled with Qatar Airways✈️ and arrived at SVO Airport, Terminal C, at 14:50. The immigration queue was not long.
✅ At immigration, I only needed to present my passport. The officer asked if I was a tourist, checked my passport, took a photo, scanned my fingerprints, and then returned my passport along with a small white slip.
✅ I had pre-registered for the rulD, but there was no barcode, and the immigration officer did not ask about it.
✅ After passing immigration, I collected my luggage and exited through the Non-Customs channel. On the left side, there was a currency exchange booth where I exchanged money at a rate of $100 = 6,800 rubles (compared to $100 = 6,300 rubles at Qatar Airport🇶🇦).
✅ For those arriving at Terminal C and heading into the city by train, turn right and follow the yellow signs to Aero Express 🚇🚞. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor, turn left, and walk about 20 meters to find the train entrance. On my visit, I encountered a ticket seller before the entrance who offered tickets for 600 rubles per person. There seemed to be a small counter there as well.
📌 You can get off at Belorussky Station and transfer to the Metro. However, if you have large luggage, I recommend using Yandex Taxi 🚕 from the airport to your hotel to save time and avoid the hassle of carrying luggage and scanning it before entering the Metro.
📌 When purchasing a Metro card, prepare a Russian translation for "3 days pass 🎫" beforehand. When I asked for a 3-day pass, the staff misunderstood and gave me three single-trip tickets instead.
📍 Buying from the machine is straightforward. Look for options labeled "1" and "3" on the screen, select the desired option, and pay in cash. A 3-day pass costs around 700 rubles, and the machine will print the card for you.
✅ The Metro is easy to use with English signage and is not complicated.
📍 I stayed at A.Kosterev Hotel Moscow for 4 nights and 5 days at a price of 16,500 rubles. The room had a bunk bed for two people, was private, and included free drinking water and hot water. The bed was very comfortable and clean. (Shared bathrooms were very clean.) The hotel also provided a microwave, refrigerator, and iron at the front desk.
📌 Rooms with private bathrooms are available at a different price. The hotel is located behind the Chang Thai restaurant, and there is a 24-hour convenience store in front of the building. It is within walking distance to GUM and Red Square, about 5 minutes from Okhotny Riad Station. From Exit 2, walk to Exit 7 to reach Red Square.
✅ The hotel Wi-Fi does not support social media. Using a VPN might help. WhatsApp works fine.
✅ I used AIS roaming from Thailand, which worked after 24 hours.
✅ Cash is the primary payment method. Some restaurants, like a Korean one, claimed to accept cards but did not. Plan to bring enough cash.
✅ I enjoyed dining at Chang Thai restaurant; the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Vietnamese Pho Bo costs around 690 rubles per dish, which is affordable. (The Korean restaurant Hite is relatively expensive.)
✅ Some restaurants and cafes have free restrooms, with access codes printed on the bill. Use the code to enter the restroom.
✅ Bring a portable bidet or wet wipes, as restrooms here do not have bidets.
❌ The restroom at GUM costs 200 rubles.
🩵 Russians are kind and helpful. If they know you're Thai, they are often very nice (based on my experience).
✅ Recommended apps: offline translation apps, Yandex Maps, Yandex Metro, and Google Maps.
✅ During my visit from November 21-25, Christmas decorations were being set up and should be completed by mid-December.
