based on 54 reviewsIt's worth visiting. Photos can only capture the grandeur; the awe you feel can't express it. If you're going, just call either the East Gate or West Gate. Once you arrive, you'll basically have to take the shuttle bus; it costs 10 yuan per person one way. For the return trip, I recommend going through the East Gate, as there's a bus stop right there, and taxis are very convenient.
Niu Shou Shan, also known as Tianque Mountain, is named after the twin peaks on the top of the mountain that resemble the double horns of an ox's head. The Niu Shou Shan has beautiful scenery and is known as the "Spring Niu Shou". In ancient times, there were beautiful Jinling scenery such as Niu Shou Yanlan and Zutang Zhenxi. There are also many historical sites, such as Yue Fei's Anti-Jin Fortress and Zheng He Cultural Park.
Buddha's Peak Palace
The Buddha's Crown Palace is themed on the worship of the Buddha's skull relic. It is divided into two parts, the large dome and the small dome, which represent external and internal worship. The Buddha's Crown Palace uses the original mine pit to build an underground palace with six floors underground and three floors above ground, which is very solemn and majestic. In recent years, the Buddha's skull relic of Sakyamuni will be worshipped in Niu Shou Shan for a long time. Tourists can visit the Buddha's Crown Palace on special Buddhist festivals. For the specific time of worshipping the relic, please call the Attraction for consultation.
Thousands of years of history
Niu Shou Shan is a Buddhist holy place. The Buddhist Cave Temple built by Sikong Xu Du in the second year of Tianjian in Liang Dynasty (503) was the first temple in Niu Shou Shan. Li Yu, the last emperor of Southern Tang Dynasty, renamed it Hongjue Temple. Emperor Daizong of Tang Dynasty "once dreamed of the Pratyekabuddha from Niu Shou Shan coming to see him", so there is a Pratyekabuddha Pagoda. In the Tang Dynasty, Master Fa Rong, who was known as "Dharma of Dongxia", founded the Niutou Zen Sect in Niu Shou Shan, which was called "Niutou of Jiangbiao" in ancient times. The establishment of the Niutou Zen Sect played an important role in bridging the transformation of Indian Zen into Chinese Zen!
Peach Blossom Creek
Taohua Creek is located at the eastern entrance of Niu Shou Shan, covering a total area of 14.87 hectares, or about 220 mu. The peach blossom varieties selected are 26 kinds of peach blossoms suitable for growing in Nanjing. It is a new landscape created by Niu Shou Shan Attraction. A stream meanders down from Yinlong Lake, with gurgling water and peach blossoms planted on both sides. In spring, the flower buds gradually bloom, and the sea of flowers is intoxicating.

The first time I went alone, this time I took my parents, and they were also very impressed. It was only on our second visit that we learned the reclining Buddha descends and there's a performance, which was a pleasant surprise. We were also very lucky; the first time we went, we saw the relics.
Niushou Mountain Scenic Area is a shining pearl of Nanjing's cultural tourism, well worth a visit. Its natural scenery and cultural heritage complement each other perfectly. Niushou Mountain, at 242.9 meters above sea level, boasts twin peaks that stand side-by-side like a celestial palace. Its scenery varies with the seasons: cherry blossoms in spring resemble snow, while autumn brings a misty haze, forming the "Niushou Misty Haze," one of the forty-eight scenic spots of ancient Jinling. It is also the birthplace of the Niutou Zen sect, preserving Tang Dynasty cliff carvings, the former fortress of Yue Fei's resistance against the Jin Dynasty, and the tomb of Zheng He, among other historical sites that tell tales of a thousand years of history. The architecture of the scenic area is also breathtaking. The Buddha Palace, built on an abandoned mine pit, blends ecological restoration with architectural art, winning both the Luban Award and the Zhan Tianyou Award. Inside, the Thousand Buddha Hall features a gilded dome that reflects beautifully in a mirror-like pool, exuding solemnity and magnificence. The Buddha Pagoda atop the mountain, designed in the Tang Dynasty style, echoes the Hongjue Temple Pagoda, offering panoramic views of Jinling city from its summit. Furthermore, the scenic area offers a variety of experiential activities. At the "Zen and Tea in Harmony" experience hall, visitors can feel the tea ceremony of the Tang and Song dynasties; at Wuzhen Hall, they can experience intangible cultural heritage handicrafts; and at Rulian Theater, the live-action performance "The Spring and Autumn Annals of Niushou" uses multimedia to tell a thousand-year-old story. The scenic area also thoughtfully offers the "Digital Niushou" mini-program, providing services such as audio guides, and transportation is very convenient. The only drawback is that the scenic area's ticket price is relatively high, and the large crowds during holidays may affect the visitor experience. However, overall, Niushou Mountain Scenic Area combines historical depth, aesthetic value, and modern services, making it a Jiangnan retreat where one can see history, touch the present, and gain insight into the future.
Niu Shou Mountain has beautiful natural scenery and is known as the "Spring Niu Shou". It has a profound cultural heritage and is the place where Yue Fei fought against the Jin army and Zheng He was buried. The Buddhist culture has a long history and is the place where the Niutou Zen sect of the Chinese Zen sect was founded and originated. There are many scenic spots, such as the Foding Temple, Foding Pagoda, Foding Palace, the former fortress of Yue Fei against the Jin army, cliff carvings, Hongjue Temple Pagoda, and Zheng He Cultural Park.
Niu Shou Mountain is located in Jiangning District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. It is named after the two peaks on the top of the mountain that stand opposite each other like the horns of a bull's head. Niu Shou Mountain is not only a famous Buddhist mountain, but also has rich natural and cultural landscapes. The scenery of Niu Shou Mountain Scenic Area varies in different seasons. In spring, there are colorful flowers, in summer, there are green trees, in autumn, there are golden ginkgo trees, and in winter, it is cold and quiet. The Buddha's Head Palace is one of the core buildings of Niu Shou Mountain, and there are many precious Buddha statues and exquisite murals enshrined inside.
Niu Shou Mountain is named after its two peaks in the east and west that are shaped like horns. The "Jinling View of Ancient Things" says: "Looking from a distance, the two peaks compete for height, like horns." Niu Shou Mountain, also known as Tianque Mountain, is a famous Buddhist mountain. From the Southern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty, there were more than 30 temples. It has a profound cultural heritage and is the place where the Buddhist Niutou Zen sect was founded and where it originated. There are many cultural relics and historical remains here, such as the Yue Fei Anti-Jin Fortress, Cliff Carvings, and Li Ruiqing's Tomb, which I visited specifically. In recent years, the Buddha's Head Palace was built on the historical mine pit on the west peak of Niu Shou Mountain. As the new scenery of the west peak of Niu Shou, the Buddha's Head Palace and the Buddha's Head Pagoda echo the east peak of Niu Shou, recreating the grand scene of the "double peaks and double towers" standing side by side on Niu Shou Mountain. In 2015, the skull relic of Sakyamuni Buddha was officially enshrined in the Buddha's Head Palace on Niu Shou Mountain. The most famous thing about Niu Shou Mountain now is the Buddha's Head Palace. The entire Buddha's Head Palace is a deep pit building.
Niu Shou Mountain in Nanjing is a mountain full of history and cultural heritage. Here, you can feel the profoundness of Buddhist culture and appreciate the beauty and magnificence of natural scenery. Whether you are tracing the footsteps of history or looking for spiritual sustenance, Niu Shou Mountain is an excellent choice.
Very shocking, the first choice for Nanjing tourism! As a local, I have taken many relatives and friends to visit Niushou Mountain, and everyone is very praised! The scenery is pleasant and the building is magnificent. I have to say what is the disadvantage that there are too many people on holidays. But anyway, it is definitely worth seeing!
