It is a tomb of a king who ruled this region, built at the beginning of the Kofun period (late 4th century). It is a front-rear burial mound with a total length of about 96 m. The front part is smaller than the rear circular part, and the burial mound has three rear circular parts and two front parts only in the front. The height of the rear circular part is about 9.6m. It was designated as a nationally designated historic site in 1955 and is now maintained as a historic site park. Equipped with multipurpose toilets.

There are several burial mounds with the same name, but this is an burial mound in Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture. Before going here, I visited the Hayama Tumulus in the tumulus group in Takahata Town, but I couldn't reach the remains properly and it was incompletely burned, so I thought it was this time. I was able to see the largest tumulus in Yamagata Prefecture and the seventh largest tumulus in the Tohoku region.
