Sungkyunkwan University was originally founded centuries ago during the Joseon Dynasty. Myeongryundang Lecture Hall is one of the Joseon era buildings that can still be seen at the university's Seoul campus. In the lecture hall's courtyard is a beautiful ginko tree that is thought to be more than 500 years old. The tree is known for its beauty and was designated Natural Monument No. 59.
