Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse
One of the smarter moves in the redevelopment of Yokohama's bayside Minato Mirai area was the decision to preserve these former customs houses, which date back to the early 20th century. The two warehouses (known as 'akarenga' in Japanese) survived the 1923 Kanto earthquake thanks to iron reinforcements, and emerged unscathed from WWII.
The No 2 building underwent redevelopment in 2022 and is now home to a refreshed selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Popular breakfast spot Bills is still here after the renovations, alongside a Disney Harvest Market for Mickey Mouse-themed meals, environmentally-friendly houseware store Sustainable Think and craft chocolate maker Chocola Meets, to name but a few of the 66 stores.
It's not all about shopping here, though. The No 1 building gets used for a wide range of events, including exhibitions and performances.
In 2024, I wish to be back here in December.

This is an old customs warehouse(?) that has been adaptively reused as a shopping space and event center (upper floors). It also seems quite trendy with a predominantly young local crowd when I visited on a weekday. However, I felt that most things were quite expensive for a budget tourist like me. Unless you specifically want a photo of the warehouses, the harbor, or want to visit a specific store located, I would not recommend a visit.
The red brick warehouse in Yokohama has the style of ancient architecture, the beach and the playground, the overall scenery gives people a good visual experience, suitable for spending 1-2 hours here to play, see different construction projects.
During the visit to Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, it is used as a Christmas Market. There are products, food for sale, cool weather by the sea, sipping hot cocoa is very good 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
A waterfront complex that combines history with modern shopping and dining. The architecture and views of the bay are picturesque.
It is a very good place to go shopping and take pictures. There are also many restaurants and souvenir shops in the red brick warehouse.
