Before I set off, I had many imaginations about Cologne Cathedral, especially about its height. It towered into the spire of the sky, but when I stood in front of it, I found it more than I expected. It is much taller, older and more mysterious. The Cologne Cathedral was built in 1248. The project was interrupted until 1880, when it was completed by Kaiser Wilhelm I. It took more than 600 years to be the landmark building in Cologne. Among all the churches, it is the second largest in Germany (after Ulm Cathedral in Ulm), the third in the world. On the scale, it is the largest church in northern Europe. The Cologne Cathedral combines grandeur and exquisiteness, and is hailed as the perfect example of Gothic church architecture. Cologne Cathedral is a rare five-entry building. The interior space is high and wide, and the tower is straight to the sky, symbolizing the desire of people to communicate with God. In addition to the two towers, there are many small spires on the outside of the church. The walls of the church are decorated with stained glass depicting the characters of the Bible; the bell tower is equipped with five bells, the heaviest of which is 24 tons, the bells ringing and the sound is loud. During the Second World War, the church was partially destroyed and has been restored for nearly 20 years. The Cologne Cathedral, which is a symbol of faith and a testimony to European cultural traditions, was finally preserved. Legend Schumann was shocked by the entrance to Cologne Cathedral, and the idea of creating the Rhine Symphony was born.
