At dusk, there was an open-air cinema near the square. A white screen hung between two trees, and countless moths and insects danced in the projector's beam. The old speakers blared out the film's dialogue, which, though somewhat indistinct, carried a nostalgic charm. The square was filled with people enjoying the cool evening air; some carried small stools, while others sat on the back of bicycles. Children chased and played among the crowd, waving glow sticks like little elves catching starlight. An old man sat in the front row, holding a palm-leaf fan, gently swaying it with the plot, occasionally letting out a knowing laugh. The popsicle cart next to it was surrounded by a crowd of children, who waited anxiously, holding coins, and eagerly tore open the wrappers and lick their popsicles. One sip, the coolness exploded in my mouth, and a satisfied expression spread across my face. I bought a bottle of soda and sat on the stone steps at the edge of the crowd, watching the black and white figures flickering on the screen, listening to the noisy yet warm voices around me. Suddenly, I felt as if I had traveled back to my childhood, to an era without cell phones or the internet, yet filled with simple joy. When the movie ended, people carried their stools home, the beams of flashlights crisscrossing in the night like flowing rivers of light. This collective memory is more powerful than any individual experience. It made me realize that no matter how times change, people's pursuit of simple happiness and their longing for the warmth of community have never changed. As the last beam of light disappeared into the night, a warm lamp lit up in my heart.
