Right, I think I’ve just had the best meal of my life and I’m officially never leaving Mexico. 😭
After wandering around the gorgeous Juárez Theatre (total architectural eye-candy, my curator brain was in absolute heaven), I was starving and found this gem hidden up a tiny flight of stairs. It’s called Restaurante Casa Mercedes and it feels like stepping straight into a glamorous Mexican grandmother’s dining room. Think starched tablecloths, faded old black-and-white photos, and so much history. 👵🏼✨
Naturally, I had to eat my way through the menu:
🍄 Black Mushroom Soup: Okay, it looks a bit like a witch's potion but it tastes like a rich, earthy dream. Absolute magic in a bowl.
👅 Braised Ox Tongue: I’m usually a bit squeamish with offal but this was SO tender I didn’t even need a knife. It literally melted. Heaven.
🍹 Margarita: Obviously had to get one. Tart, salty, and very strong (just how I like them).
It's super close to the funicular for the El Pípila viewpoint, so you can do the touristy views and then head down here for the proper feast. 10/10, absolutely buzzing. Now to slowly roll myself back to the hotel... 🐷
