In a word, Hongcun Ancient Village is beautiful. Despite being much busier and more touristic compared with nearby Xidi and Lucun villages, Hongcun still remains well worth a visit - especially if you can take the time to explore every nook and cranny, every winding alleyway or even extend your exploration away from the crowds and into the countryside that surrounds it.
Of course, visiting Moon Pond is a must, but I think the real beauty lies in the entry way to the village, where a long pathway seems to float above the water leading to an entry point of the village.
If you have the time to enjoy a leisurely stay, then you might want to splurge on Zhang Mansion - a beautiful old-style hotel that extends fantastic hospitality to all their guests - from welcome snacks and tea on arrival, to complimentary fruit, tea and a proper tea set for use in the room and sparkling water in the room, on top of a very generous breakfast of congee plus a whole load of trimmings! However, despite the beautiful interiors and commendable hospitality, do note that the walls are thin...so if you have noisy neighbours, you’re going to hear them for sure...

March / April are the best times to see the bright yellow fields of rapeseed flowers surrounding villages in Anhui - and Lucun is one of those villages you can explore to enjoy an escape into nature.
From Shanghai, you can take a high speed train to Huangshan North Train Station, which is only around 2.5-3 hours. Then, to reach Lucun Village, you can either take a bus from Huangshan North or hire a driver for the day. We decided to hire a driver for a day, at 350 RMB per day, to take us around a number of villages in the area.
Lucun is located near Hongcun Village, so you could easily schedule in a visit to at least two or three villages in one day if you’re pressed for time. Lucun is one of the smaller villages, charming and tranquil, and is said to be around 1,000 years old. while strolling through, we saw locals simply getting about their day prepping meals, washing clothes or heading out into the fields to work. The surrounding areas was beautiful - with bright yellow fields surrounding the immediate area around the village, and huge rolling hills in the distance.

Hongcun ancient village is located around 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Huangshan city. There is a regular bus going to this place daily, so it is very reachable. The place is really traditional and beautiful, with some small lakes and ponds around it. Inside, you can find many traditional shops and also food, and cafes. #HalloTrip
