This is one of Europe’s top hiking routes, stretching from Praia da Marinha to Praia de Vale Centianes. Start at Marinha Beach viewpoint (Praia da Marinha 8400, Lagoa) for sunrise—park early, as the lot fills up fast. The rocky terrain means sturdy shoes are a must, with thickets and twists at every turn but non-stop panoramic eye-candy. As you trek, don’t miss Benagil Cave (Cm1154 | Praia de Benagil, Benagil, Lagoa 8400)—peer down through the famous skylight from above, or, if you want to fully experience it, join a SUP/kayak tour to swim inside and catch sandy rays. For a swim break, hit Praia de Benagil (Estrada de Benagil, Lagoa 8400-427). The water’s irresistibly clear—pack swimwear and a towel for a dip. Keep fueled and hydrated—no shops on the way! Be sure to pack snacks and water for the day. The wild natural paths mean slower going, so allow a full day and pace yourself. If you finish at sunset in Carvoeiro, catch a Bolt taxi back to your starting point—it’s the easiest exit after a long hike. On the route, look for classic shots: those cliff’s-edge panoramas at sunrise, Benagil cave from above, and whitewashed Carvoeiro at dusk—all totally Insta-worthy.
