I recently had the pleasure of staying here, and it exceeded expectations on every front. The Safari Experience The highlight, naturally, is the proximity to the Big Five. The game drives are incredibly well-organized, led by expert rangers who are walking encyclopedias of the bush. We were lucky enough to spot lions and elephants within the first hour. For those who prefer a slower pace, the lodge overlooks a watering hole where hippos and various birds are frequent visitors—perfect for viewing with a morning coffee. The Lodge & Amenities The rooms are spacious, air-conditioned, and strike a great balance between "rustic safari" and "modern luxury." Service: The staff are exceptionally professional and attentive, ensuring every transition from check-in to the game drive is seamless. Family-Friendly: It is remarkably well-suited for families. The grounds are secure, and there are plenty of activities to keep younger travelers engaged while the adults soak in the tranquility of the Pilanesberg. Dining: The buffet spreads are diverse and high-quality, offering a mix of local South African flavors and international favorites. Pro-Tips for Future Travelers Book the Early Drive: The 6:00 AM game drive is worth the early wake-up call for the best predator sightings. Watering Hole View: If possible, request a room closer to the watering hole for prime "stationary" game viewing. The Spa: After a dusty day in the bush, the on-site spa is a fantastic way to recharge. Bottom Line: Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or traveling with family, Bakubung provides a world-class safari experience without sacrificing comfort. I would return in a heartbeat!
