Wuzhou is known for its ancient history that dates back over 2000 years. It was inhabited by the Baiyue people during the Qin dynasty and was previously known as Guangxin and Cangwu. The area is known for its beautiful natural scenery. Major attractions include Tong lau architecture (early 20th Century buildings with Chinese and European architectural features), the Dragon Mother Temple which dates from the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties, the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial, the Yuanyang River, Baiyunshan Park, Yusi'en Temple, and the former residence of the military commander Li Jishen.
