Puerta de Alcalá Photos
The Puerta de Alcala has been a legendary symbol of Madrid since 1778. The Puerta de Alcala was commissioned by King Charles III to illustrate the modern prestige of the ancient city. You will find it in the Plaza de la Independencia (Independence Square), near the modern city center. Constructed entirely of granite and featuring relief sculpture, the arch has witnessed wars, revolutions, assassinations, as well as less serious events such as concerts and music videos. Another Madrid landmark is the grandiose Cibeles Fountain.
