Alexander Jersen (Alexandre Yersin, September 22, 1863 - March 1, 1943), also translated Yehsen, Yersin, a French doctor and bacteriologist. He was one of the discoverers of the plague bacteriosis, so the official name of the plague bacteriosis is named after Yersinia pestis (Yersen's bacteria). The Pasteur Institute was established in Nha Trang (then French Indochina) to develop vaccines and antiserums. Brazil's rubber tree and Peru's ginner tree (quinine) were introduced to Vietnam. The statue of Jersen stands on the Nha Trang seafront.
