Northern University for Nationalities is located in the comprehensive college of Yinchuan Xixia District, Ningxia, founded in 1984, formerly known as the Northwest Second Nationality College, and renamed the Northern University for Nationalities in 2008.

Outside the school personnel can enter freely, vehicles are not. There is a swimming pool open to the public on Saturday. Three restaurants, Han cuisine, Qing cuisine, faculty and staff restaurant. There is the largest library in the northwest. Two playgrounds, and Minghu, Minghu also has a few black swans.
