Carpenter Hall was the site of the first continental conference in North America. The house was named after the company of the same name, because the ownership of the house was the company. On September 5, 1774, the colonies of North America gathered here for a meeting, and held until October, writing to the King, demanding that the colony be considered as a whole, and making a claim, if not met, then the following year. So the house is small, but it is important in American history. Every important day, such as the anniversary of the British occupation of Philadelphia, antique events are held, some playing the British army, some playing the civilian, some playing the militia, restore the events of the time to commemorate.
