The palace on the hill of Budapest is the historic castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings of Budapest. It was first completed in 1265, but the Baroque palace that occupies most of the site today is built between 1749 and 1769. The former complex was called the palace. The castle now houses the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum. The southern end of the castle hill is called Várnegyed (Castle District), a tourist area. The castle hill is known for its medieval, baroque and neoclassical houses, churches, public buildings and monuments. The mountain is connected by the castle hill cable car to Clark Addam Square and the chain bridge of Selcheny.
