You rarely find lighthouses far from the coast. The structure began with the bell tower in 1857, when the governor's wife was frustrated with the poor timing quality. The lighthouse lighthouse was added a decade later. It is the main lighthouse in Colombo, which has been around for about 100 years until the surrounding buildings make it less useful for new uses. It is located at the intersection of Chatham Street and Janadhipathi Mawatha in the Fort area. It is 29m high. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1952.
