The Elbphilharmonie doesn’t officially open until January 2017, but if you are anywhere near the harbor you won’t be able to miss it, and you should walk down to the Elbe to get a glimpse of it at least. Built from an old warehouse, the new design by Swiss architects has an impressive façade and wave-like roof. Inside will eventually be two concert halls, a hotel and apartments. If you fall in love with it, and are a classical music fan, tickets for the opening concerts are already on sale. If you are reading this after January 2017, the Elbphilharmonie directors are planning an ambition lineup of soloists and orchestras from around the world, putting a modern touch on classical music. Concert series, festivals and experimental musical fun will play out.
