Dublin General Post Office (General Post Office, Dublin, Irish: Ard-Oifig an Phoist) is the headquarters of the postal department of the Republic of Ireland and the main post office in Dublin. Generally referred to as GPO. The Dublin General Post Office is located in the heart of Dublin and is one of Ireland's most famous buildings and the last George Dynasty-style building in Dublin. The building was opened on January 6, 1818. The post office was once the command of the rebels during the 1916 Easter Rising and was badly damaged in the war. Now Dublin's General Post Office is also a symbol of Irish freedom. The General Post Office is located in the most prosperous area - O'conner area, near the tourist area, attracting a large number of tourists to visit.
