The Hulan Estuary Wetland Nature Reserve is located in the southern part of Hulan District, the north bank of Songhua River and the mouth of Hulan River. The project includes wetland protection and monitoring, wetland restoration and reserve capacity building. Three management stations, three observation towers, one wetland monitoring station, two hydrological monitoring points, one meteorological monitoring point, one animal rescue station, one monitoring station for wildlife epidemic sources and 10 monitoring points for animal epidemics will be built. The project will return farmland to 255 hectares of wetland vegetation and restore 225 hectares of wetland vegetation. The total investment in the construction project is million yuan. From 2008, Harbin will take three years to restore the construction of the largest urban wetland in China, the Hulan Estuary Wetland, and the inland wetland ecosystem and rare waterfowl resources in Harbin will be protected. The total area of the project is 19,262 hectares. During the year, two scientific research monitoring and reserve management stations will be built, one bird ring station and one monitoring station for epidemic diseases of wildlife sources will be built, and 125 hectares of wetland will be restored. After the restoration of the Hulan Estuary Wetland Reserve, it will become the largest urban wetland in China.
