Kotagede (Javanese: Kuthagedhé) is a historic area in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The name is also used for the regency (kemantren) with the same name in the City of Yogyakarta. Kotagede contains the remains of the first capital of the Mataram Sultanate, founded in the 16th century.
