It looks like a prison, but it's gorgeous inside. Juana of Austria, daughter of King Carlos I of Austria, ordered the construction. As Juana's noble friends donated generously to the monastery, the barefoot monastery soon became one of Spain's richest churches. You can see the magnificent Renaissance galleries with frescoes, tapestries with paintings by the famous Dutch painter Rubens, and an amazing painting called "Travel of 11,000 Virgins" The Voyage of the 11,000 Virgins. 。 There are currently 33 nuns living here, and 33 chapels are scattered around the monastery.
