The Libenberg Monument, located on the University Ring Road opposite the University of Vienna, was built in 1890 to commemorate John Andreas von Libenberg, who served as mayor of Vienna from 1680 to 1683 before making a great contribution to fighting the city's plague. Helping besieged citizens left behind during the second siege of Vienna in 1683. The monument is a 9-meter-high obelisk, with a bronze reclining lion on the front steps, and bronze angels on both sides holding a gold-plated Liebenberg portrait medal in their hands. The obelisk is crowned on the top of the monument by a gilded statue of Victory, Victoria.
