Mount Desert Island The coastline terrain is broken and uneven, and there are many small islands along the coast. The special terrain here is formed by glaciers, in addition to grinding the granite rocks on the top of the mountain to smooth and flat, and cutting and expanding the valley. After the ice melts, the sea rises and floods the valley, thus forming the current island landscape.
