We stayed 2 nights in South Brighton, less than a block from the beach and across the dunes to the sea. Black sand beaches are rare and there are lots of driftwood and locals turn them into interesting pieces. There are many shells on the way to the pier. This area is perfect for families, elderly people, couples to sit, relax and enjoy, there are some small restaurants, coffee shops nearby, not bad. The coastal streets are displayed with fantastic sandstone and other materials sculptures. You must have a good stroll around them. There are outstanding works by locals. I recommend staying here if you want to stay away from the city, and it’s not too far to go to the city if you want. You can enjoy the essence of both worlds.
