It is definitely worth the time to get to Salhus from Bergen! The museum is fascinating and the tour guides are friendly and can be bilingual, as my Norwegian is not the strongest. There are lots of beautiful items in the gift shop - very special yarns (the yarns are produced near Hillesvåg and then tied up in the museum machine!) gorgeous pattern books, lovely hand-woven and nonwoven items and interesting concepts and accessories. The cafe also has delicious waffles and jams, and can also boost your defenses before you rush back to Bergen by bus! Even if weaving isn’t something you really want, take the time to get here, because it’s fun to just learn about the history of the area and how all this is going around the museum’s once-in-a-lifetime factory.
