The history of Noro's black Catholics has been told, and the museum has made great strides in this regard. The nun did a good job and knew little about it. Our visit to this historic site has greatly helped us appreciate Noro's history and the status of nuns. I am particularly interested in a handwritten letter from President Thomas Jefferson to the nuns assuring them that the United States Government will not interfere with their religion - "it will be preserved sacrosanctly by you and that your institutions will be allowed to govern. According to their own voluntary rules, they do not interfere in civil rights.
