Palazzo Vecchio is located in Piazza della Signoria and is the seat of the Commune. It represents the best synthesis of 14th-century civilian architecture and one of the most popular civic buildings in the world.Originally called "Palazzo dei Priori", it became the "Palazzo della Signoria" in the 15th century, named after the main body of the Florentine Republic; in 1540 it became a Palazzo Ducale, when Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici made his residence; finally, the Old name assumed it after 1565 when Duke Cosimo's court moved to the "new" Palazzo Pitti.From 1865 to 1871 was the seat of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy, while today it houses the Mayor of Florence and various municipal offices. There is also a museum where you can visit the magnificent rooms where Agnolo Bronzino, Ghirlandaio and Giorgio Vasari worked, and where Michelangelo Buonarroti, Donatello, Verrocchio's works are exhibited.
