Located in the Arctic Circle city of Rovaniemi, Rovaniemi Church is one of the most important churches in the region. The church now seen was completed in 1950, and the former church buildings were destroyed in the 1944 bombing of the city. After the war, the present Rovaniemi Church was built with strong economic support from Sweden and the United States. The new Rovaniemi Church was designed and built by architect Bertel Liljeqvist. It is 43 meters high and 18.5 meters wide. Its prominent spire is 54 meters high and its overall shape is exquisite. Especially in winter, the white snow covers the Arctic city, and the lofty Rovaniemi Church gives people a kind of sacred and solemn tranquility. The whole church can accommodate 850 people, and its beautiful interior decoration is completed by artist Antti Salmenlinna. Behind the altar of the church is a 14-meter-high mural, called the Origin of Life. It was painted in 1951 by Lennart Segerstr & _9; le, a professor of Lennart Segerstr. It is of great appreciation and historical value. The church also has a 45-key organ made by the Christensen Organ Factory, which was installed here in 1987. It is also worth visiting.
