The Strahov monastery was founded in 1143. In the 17th century it was rebuild into its today’s baroque form. There's a very beautiful library inside (Theological and Philosophical hall). They're a must see. The Basilica of the Assumption is also a real beauty. The monastery was forcibly dissolved by the communists in the 1950s and all the monks were sent to the labor camps. It's working again today. The monastery has it's own brewery (founded around 1400) and an adjunct restaurant that comes highly recommended. The breweries beer is called Saint Norbert. The whole place is one of the most important monastic complexes in the Czech republic.

If you visit Strahov Library at Strahov Monastery you will see manuscripts from the 13th century as well as the painted ceiling and artworks. After visiting the library, walk around the area and enjoy the monk's beer in the Strahov Monastic Brewery and the city views. Please note: You must reserve a tour guide in advance, without the private tour, you can only view the collection from the hall, behind the ropes

Beautiful church! Come for some prayers, stay for the beer. The church and library next to it are wonderful, and the different types of beer at the brewery and restaurant are great.

Founded in the 12th century, this fascinating monastery complex not only survived wars, fires, and various political upheavals, but also managed to preserve a great many historic manuscripts, books, documents and objects. The two library halls are true architectural gems, and are a must see. The monastery is beautifully located on a hill overlooking the city, and affords great views of the castle and the city. To top it all, the abbey has its own brewery and a restaurant. Their St Norbert beer is very good and is definitely worth a try.

A sobering spot for Jewish history and the plight of the Jews in Czechoslovakia and other Eastern European countries. Filed with artifacts, personal belongings, and story-telling through historical anecdotes, the Strahov Monastery is the most stimulating of the monasteries housed within the Jewish Quarter museum.
