Zhongshan Memorial Hall is located on Dongfeng Middle Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It was built by the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese to commemorate Mr. Sun Yat-sen. The memorial hall was built in January 1929 and was completed in November 1931. In 1956, the bronze statue of Mr. Sun Yat-sen, which was recast 5 meters high, stood in front of the memorial. In 1963, the memorial was renovated in a large-scale manner. The roof was all blue glazed, and iron fences were built around the park of more than 60,000 square meters. Guangzhou Zhongshan Memorial Hall is an octagonal building, with a majestic shape and strong national characteristics. The designer cleverly applied the structural principle of building mechanics, using a mix of steel frame and reinforced concrete structure, and there is no column in the building space of 71 meters in span, which is known as a must for modern Chinese architecture. Guangzhou Zhongshan Memorial Hall is one of the most iconic buildings in Guangzhou, and an important venue for large gatherings and performances in Guangzhou.
