Founded at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Zhu Yuanxuan in the Ming Dynasty recognized Hu Haihai and Changyuchun and other Hui generals from the Lama Temple to the mosque. The Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army established the first ethnic minority autonomous government here: the Hui People's Autonomous Government in Yuhai County.
